Top 10 Movies of 2013

Hi my lovelies!!! I hope you've all had a wonderful holidays! The new year is approaching and as 2013 is coming to a close, I've decided that I will have three back-to-back posts on my favorites books, movies and tv shows of 2013!!!! Today I will rank my top ten favorite movies of the year!!!!! This may contain spoilers so you are forewarned!!

Up first are honorable mentions aka the movies I enjoyed but not enough to make the list.

Frozen

I enjoyed this movie and I loooved Elsa, the snow queen. I really felt for her in this movie and I swear I've listened to Let It Go about a hundred times already. I thought Olaf, the snowman, was hilarious and had some of the best one-liners of the movie and Kristoff, the man who sells ice, and his reindeer were funny. The reason this didn't make the top 10 was simply due to the fact that I didn't like Anna, the main character (or so I believe). She seemed really spoiled and her "problems" were just childish compared to Elsa's actual problems controlling her powers.

Monsters University

While this movie was good and I really enjoyed it, it wasn't one of my favorites. The characters were all fun and I loved all the frat monsters!! The challenges were not only fun to watch but interesting as well. I thought the plot was creative and I really liked how the voice actors came back for this and much of the movie hinted at scenes in Monsters Inc. But I don't know.... This isn't really a movie I would go back and watch again and again which is one of the reason it's an honorable mention.

Grown Ups 2

I did really enjoy this movie. It was funny in the same way that the Grown Ups were and the story and characters continued to be as I loved them in the first movie. There really was no plot but there was plenty of funny one-liners and comedic scenes to hold you to the end. It wasn't as good as Grown Ups though and there were many much better movies out there this year.

Beautiful Creatures

This movie was one I was hesitant to go see. I hadn't read the books and the trailers didn't really look good to me. But eventually enough of my friends recommended it to me and I bit the bullet. Truth be told, I did enjoy the movie for what it was. I liked the characters and the idea of the movie. I didn't enjoy the ending but I know its a series so it has end on a cliffhanger. The special effects were weird though and a lot of the movie dragged until the end.

NOW onto my top ten favorite movies. Now remember, these are my top favorites so if you disagree, that's fine and I'd love to hear your opinions!!

Number 10 is.... Epic!!!

I was expecting to go to this movie and watch a fun little hour long movie. And I was not disappointed! The characters were all three-dimensional and had many layers to fall in love with and the plot although not new was interesting to watch. Basically I fell in love with the leafy kingdom. Seriously, I was not bored at any point throughout this movie! The villains were totally hateable and though the final battle scene went on for a while, I still liked most of it. I did however find it kind of sad that MK grew to normal size and couldn't really be friends with Nod anymore. Overall this movie was seriously EPIC (pun-intended).

Number 9 is.... Oz: The Great and Powerful!!!

Now I really liked this take on the Wizard of Oz and when I first heard of it, I was on the fence as to whether or not to check it out because I never really liked the story of Dorothy and Oz. When I checked out the trailer, I was blown away! I thought it was super fun that the movie was about the Wizard when he first came. The special effects were incredible and I loved the twist in the movie that Glenda was the good witch and Evanora was actually the evil witch. The ending battle was epic and it was definitely my favorite part of the movie. There were negatives however which is why it's at number 9. I did not enjoy how Oscar broke Theodora's heart and then all of a sudden, she's the bad guy because he played her. The movie also began to drag right after he meets Glenda and before the preparations for the battle. But all-in-all, this movie was fun to watch!

Number 8 is .... Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters!!!

Can I just say: I loved this movie more than I should have. It was funny, sarcastic and soooo creative! I loved this take on the classic Grimm brothers' fairytale! It seems totally likely that after almost being eaten by a witch, the siblings would become witch hunters! I was surprised to hear Gemma curse in this movie because I've only ever seen her in Prince of Persia! I loved all the characters including the villain: Famke Janssen aka Jean Grey from X-Men. No seriously, Muriel was a great villain and the end fight scene was sooo cool! It kept you on the edge of your seats! There really wasn't much of a plot other than having to stop the witches but that's enough for this movie-goer!!

Number 7 is... The Wolverine!!!

As you all probably know, the X-Men franchise has a small place in my heart right behind the Star Wars trilogy (the originals because who the hell liked the prequels?) so it's no surprise that this movie is on the list! I really debated where on the list this movie would go because as you knew from my review... there was a lot I loved at the time but thinking back, the movie was not as epic as I thought it was right after seeing it. Finally I settled on 7 because it wasn't too high and it wasn't too low. The plot of this movie made perfect sense to me, the ending was totally not predictable and the amount of Jean dream scenes were just right! I did not enjoy Mariko's romance with Wolverine because I didn't see any chemistry there and Viper wasn't enough of a villain for me to properly enjoy her. Thus, number 7 it is. [Check out my Wolverine Thoughts post if you want more details]

Number 6 is.... Iron Man 3!!!

You knew this was coming! You had to! Now I loved Iron Man because of its creativity and I liked the second movie because of the Black Widow but this movie, it was just amazing! The emotion! The action! Pepper finally kicking ass! Now as most of you know, I really like when a hero shows emotion behind his character. I think that makes the character even more lovable and the fact that Tony Stark was having trouble sleeping and going through stress after the Avengers made me love him more. It makes total sense that he was worried. I also loved the fact that the Mandarin was just an actor! It was a totally unexpected twist and although I would have enjoyed seeing the actual super powered villain, this one was fun to watch. I thought the final battle scene was a little longer than needed and the scenes with that little kid were a little Disney-esque. Normally there's nothing wrong with that but in a superhero movie, I don't need a little kid getting the superhero pumped up again.

Number 5 is.... Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters!!!

This is probably a movie that wasn't on most people's radars let alone their top ten but the truth is, I loved this movie. It was fun and although didn't really follow the book to a tee, it was enjoyable. After watching the first movie, I kind of separated the books from the movies so when I went in to watch this movie, I wasn't expecting it to be accurate and it really wasn't. There was a bunch of stuff that made so sense to me but overall the characters were lovable, the battle scenes were fun to watch and the comedic one-liners made me die. Seriously, when Percy and Annabeth were singing it's a small world after all and Clarisse told them to shut up, I died. [Check out my Sea of Monsters post for more details]

Number 4 is... The Hunger Games: Catching Fire!!!

I have never read the books. There. I figured I should get that out of the way. But I have watched the first movie and I really loved this one. It was funny to see how much more of a budget this movie had compared to the first. I love Katniss and Peeta and Haymitch although Gale I could live without. I loved the acting in this movie! I loved the Quarter Quell! I loved that Katniss slowly fell in love with Peeta! President Snow was so cunning and awesome and I totally knew that Plutarch Heavensbee was on their side from the beginning but I loved how cunning he was with Snow! I'm not sure how I feel about Finnick or any of the new characters yet. I've heard everyone who's read the books rant and rave about Finnick and how excited they were to see him but he was alright in the movie. I didn't hate him but I didn't love him either. Maybe I just have to wait for the next one... Speaking of, I can't wait for the next one!

Number 3 is.... The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones!!!

Oh TMI.. where do I begin? How do I count the ways I love you? I only just read the books in the beginning of 2013 so I didn't really need to wait too long for the movie to come out but to me, it felt like forever and you all knew that. I loooooooved this movie. Seriously. I watched this three times in theaters. I loved the way the characters came to life. I loved Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower! I loved that they mostly stuck closely to the books (except for the ending which I can rant and rave about forever but it won't change anything). The chemistry between Lily and Jamie was fantastic and I loved all of the scenery and the fight scenes! I loved Jamie's one-liners and their emotional scene when they realized that they were siblings! CAN NOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE! [Check out my TMI post for a more detailed review]

Number 2 is... The Great Gatsby!!!

Bet you didn't expect this one to be on my list! But it is! Shows how much of a nerd I am!!!! I seriously can't praise this movie enough. Like there are not enough words. I loved this book and I love this movie. Leonardo DiCaprio was beyond perfect and I can't picture anyone else in his place. In fact, all of the castings were perfect and every actor played their roles perfectly. The scenery was just flamboyant enough to show off the 20s and the costumes were gorgeous. I loved the influx of modern music in different scenes and I literally started CRYING when Gatsby was shot. I knew it was coming. I did. But when it happened I gasped anyway! I've watched this once in theaters and like five times on DVD!!!

AND the moment you've allllll been waiting for (not really but let me have my fun). Number 1 is.... THOR: THE DARK WORLD!!!

That was expected. Don't you think? Haha honestly I went back and forth on whether this should be one or two.... I just couldn't decide. When I thought of the Great Gatsby I feel warm and tingly inside but I finally realized that it was probably more to do with all my nostalgic feelings about reading the book four years ago and thus, this movie came out on top! I LOVED IT! I did not really enjoy Thor but this movie went above and beyond! The acting was fantastic! The plot was amazing! CHRIS EVANS HAD A CAMEO! Loki was incredible and I almost cried when I thought he died and I was soooo relieved when he didn't. I loved the battles and it was so sad to see Thor's mother die! I did not really like the ending but I figure they need a way for Thor to stay on Earth so he could be an Avenger. BUT I loved this movie and I can't gush enough about it!

Well that's all for today! Thanks for tuning in! Check back in tomorrow to see my top 10 favorite tv shows of 2013!!

xoxo Allie
