Top 10 Movies of 2015

Hi everyone!! So I'm back with my top ten favorite movies of the year! You know how this works! I will list my top ten from 10 to 1 and describe what I liked and disliked about the movie. These descriptions will include spoilers so if you haven't watched the movie, go check it out and come back. Now remember these are all my thoughts and opinions so if you disagree, let me know in the comments! Also if you want a refresher, check out my Top 10 Movies of 2013 and Top 10 Movies of 2014!!

Minions

Coming in at number 10 was Minions!! This is one of those movies that never would have been on my top 10 if I had checked out more movies this year. Despite that fact, this movie was cute overall and it was fun to watch if you turned your brain off during it. The minions were always my favorite part of the Despicable Me movies but I'm not sure a solo movie without them ever speaking was the right call. The weird noises they made got really annoying halfway through the movie but I really liked the end scene.

Hotel Transylvania 2

At number 9 is Hotel Transylvania 2!! When I watched the first movie, I absolutely loved it and when I heard there was a second, I wasn't sure how I felt. Sequels are usually worse than the first which was true for this movie but luckily it was pretty funny too. Despite not being as good as the first, it was still enjoyable. A lot of the humor was similar to the first movie and Dennis was adorable. I really liked how the whole monster and human relationships was a metaphor for different race couples and same sex couples. One of my favorite storylines in this movie was Dennis and Winnie and I was surprised with how cute I thought they were.

Pitch Perfect 2

Coming in at number 8 is Pitch Perfect 2!! This movie was pretty fun to watch and I really enjoyed diving into the acapella world again (even if it's not real acapella). The songs were so much fun and I loved all the returning characters and the new ones! I loved the German singing group and the song that the Bellas sang in the competition even though I thought the German group's performance was better. I died at Bumper and Fat Amy's relationship and overall this movie was extremely fun to watch even though I still prefer the first movie to this one.

Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2

Coming in at number 7 is the Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2!! Although my favorite book of the series has always been Catching Fire, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Mockingjay Part 1 so I had high hopes for Part 2 and it was a fun turnout. Every scene was true to the books and everything felt so nostalgic about the movie knowing that this was the last Hunger Games film. The action was great, the characters were amazing and I really enjoyed the ending. The chemistry between Peeta and Katniss has always been amazing and their relationship has always been the emotional core of the books (in my opinion) and the movies have solidified that. I really felt for their relationship in this movie and the death of Finnick was heartbreaking.

The DUFF

At number 6 is The Duff!! Honestly I don't know how I fell in love with this movie! It was supposed to be a typical high school young adult movie with the whole "ugly girl" has a makeover and the "hot guy" falls for her trope but this movie turned that idea around. Instead of the ugly girl realizing that the hot guy was an ass and falling for her best guy friend, the hot guy turned out to have a heart of gold, fall for the girl without her makeover and they ended up together. The comedy in this movie was hilarious, Mae Whitman was seriously amazing and the plot was fun. Everything about this formula should have been ehh but surprised me with how fun it was.

Inside Out

At number 5 is Inside Out!! Within a year of remakes and reboots, this Disney-Pixar film was a breath of fresh air but TBH at this point, it's shocking if a Disney-Pixar movie isn't great! I thought the idea of this movie was adorable and original so I was excited to check the movie out and let me say, it did not disappoint. Joy was (pardon my pun) a joy to watch and Sadness grew on me. The plot was so mature for a children's show and I love the themes and the morals of the movie. I won't lie, I cried several times during this movie. All of the characters were relatable and the comedy was funny without having to be reduced to childish jokes! The ending was perfect and I am so glad I checked it out!

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Coming in at number 4 is the Avengers: Age of Ultron!! I was super excited to see this movie because as you all probably know by now, I've a Marvel movie girl. Unfortunately this movie fell a little short for me and the negatives were pretty hearty but despite this, I did enjoy the movie while I was watching it. I loved Ultron, the action and comedy were on point and the introduction of Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch was perfect. I didn't like how everything felt jam-packed and some scenes were too long (like at the farm ugh) while others were too quick (wtf was with Thor in the cave pool). I also wasn't a fan of Natasha's characterization or her romance with Bruce which made her a mix between a damsel-in-distress and the romantic love interest in an action movie when Natasha can seriously hold her own. Despite all this, Age of Ultron was a great movie and check out my in-depth review of Age of Ultron for more details/my opinions.

Jurassic World

At number 3 is Jurassic World!! So I'm one of the very few human beings on the planet that hasn't watched the Jurassic Park movies (I know, I know) but I went to see this movie because my friends wanted to and Chris Pratt was in it and it turned out to be fantastic! I loved the plot, the characters, the romance, and the dinosaurs! Chris Pratt was hilarious while also bringing this smoldering charm that I haven't seen before! And the freaking raptors!! I never thought Blue's death would be so painful and would cause me to cry but it did!! The indominus rex was so awesome and the perfect villain and though the ending was a little strange with the T-Rex saving everyone without attacking innocents, I still loved the movie enough to go and watch the old movies! If that's not praise enough, I don't know would!

Cinderella

Coming in at number 2 is Cinderella!! Live-action remakes of animated movies usually never work out but something about this movie just worked. Everything was just so nostalgic and beautiful and watching it makes you think "don't you just love love?!" Lily James was so beautiful and perfect as Cinderella and Richard Madden was so handsome and charming. Every scene the two had together was magical and heartwarming and I'm 100% sure I never stopped smiling while watching this movie. I loved their meeting and their ballroom dance and the scene where she puts on the slipper!!! SO MANY FEELS! I shouldn't have loved this as much as I did because Cinderella is one of my least favorite Disney princess movies (Snow White and Sleeping Beauty come in second and first respectively) and I've seen all the modern retellings of this but something about the way this movie was filmed was just beautiful. Honestly I don't even know how to describe how much I adore this movie and hopefully this review doesn't just sound gushy!!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

AND MY NUMBER ONE FAVORITE MOVIE OF 2015 WAS STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS!! Okay guys seriously. What else could it have been?? This movie would have been fantastic just based on nostalgia and the excitement surrounding the movie but the characters and the plot didn't hold back. There were lots of throwbacks to the original trilogy and this movie's plot even resembled a New Hope! Seeing Leia, Luke and Han again was so beautiful and I swear I couldn't stop crying for a few minutes when Han died (and then Leia felt it from so far away and I died again). The new characters of Finn, Po and Kylo Ren were epic and I fell in love with Rey and BB-8!! Everything about this movie was great and I literally cannot think of a single complaint other than WHY DID HAN HAVE TO DIE but that's not really a complaint. Seriously guys, if you're not a fan of Star Wars, you're really missing out.

And with that, this list has been concluded! I hope you've enjoyed reading through my favorite movies and I hope you have a wonderful 2016!

xoxo Allie
