What Dramas Am I Watching This Week?

Here's what I'm watching this week! Of course the list is split by country and episodes I've seen so far are written below! There will be spoilers from now on so if you aren't caught to the episode number I list, you might want to go watch that episode and then come back! KDRAMA

Devilish Joy (2/16): Gong Ma Sung is a successor to the Sunwoo company. Life seems to be going well until he gets into a car accident while trying to help a woman. Since then, he suffers from memory loss where his memory lasts only a day. Every night before bed, he writes notes about what happened to him that day and the next morning he memorizes everything that happened. Gong Ma Sung then meets Joo Gi Beum, a formerly well-known actress, and falls in love.

What an adorable first two episodes! It reminded me so much Legend of The Blue Sea with the whole first meeting set during what seems to be a vacation for our hero before amnesia hits and our heroine is the only one who remembers. Their second meeting of course wasn't as cute but it's weird cause Ma Sung seems to be more like an ass now. I do hope that soon Ma Sung like Joon Jae basically melts in front of the adorableness that is the woman he loves. Honestly as you know it's basically my kryptonite seeing a rough guy (rough not cold) melt when the cheerful girls charms him! It's really sad what has happened to Gi Beum since they last met 3 years ago and it's heartbreaking that Ma Sung got into that accident when trying to save her. I really like that Gi Beum seems to still be a positive and kind person even after all the trauma she went through cause I always think the strongest characters are the ones that remain good under the worst circumstances. I'm assuming by the end of this show Ma Sung will remember everything again and I do hope that not only does the truth come out about that creepy producer but also that Gi Beum is able to make a comeback. I think this show will be the exact cute and fluffy rom com I've been waiting for!

Life (14/16): This series examines the hospital as a breeding ground for misuse of power. It is a place of conflicting interests and clashing egos. The doctors have the power to save lives, but the board has the power to kill doctors. In a building supposedly dedicated to the public’s health, it’s the personal vendettas that fuel people to get up in the morning.

When this show originally came out I was planning on checking it out but the subs were delayed for a while and then eventually I decided that this show wasn't worth it so it wasn't until this week when I finally became curious enough to go back and check it out since some of my other shows ended. When I first started this show, I wasn't entirely sure how I feel about it cause objectively I could see that it was written really really well (like Circle level well) and I loved that pretty much all the characters were grey rather than black and white but despite that all, I was watching a bit on autopilot but as the show is coming to an end I've gotten more and more excited about it. The president of the hospital is a fascinating character cause he's originally portrayed as evil but over time you realize that though he's not exactly on the up and up, neither are most of the doctors in the hospital which leads to what is causing me a little bit of struggle. There's so much politics happening in this show and so little medicine that it kind of feels like the show could have been set in pretty much any setting which is disappointing cause I was hoping for more of a medical drama with politics thrown in here and there (more like The Night Shift if you've watched that American show.) I am loving the relationship between Jin Woon and Sun Woo cause it started out feeling like maybe the brothers didn't like each other that much but as the episodes passed by, you saw more and more of how much they actually love each other. I do kind of wish the romance was building between Jin Woon and No Eul rather than what we're getting but this isn't really a romantic show so it doesn't bother me that much. I can't wait to see how the hospital finally fights back and how they work together with the president to kick out the chairman who's the real black and white villain in this story!

My ID Is Gangnam Beauty (12/16): Adapted from a popular webtoon, this drama tells of Kang Mi Rae, a girl once bullied for her looks. As a result, she became insecure, cautious around people and withdrawn. However, Mi Rae decides she wants a fresh start away from bullying and gets plastic surgery to transform her face. When she begins university, she meets Do Kyung Suk from their middle school days, who sees people for what they are on the inside and not the outside; he then becomes attracted to Kang Mi Rae. As Mi Rae begins to get teased once more and labeled "Gangnam Beauty", the cold, aloof but kind inside Kyung Suk becomes the one person that stands up for her and in the process, Mi Rae begins to recover her lost confidence and discovers that true beauty is not on the outside.

Mi Rae was irritating me a bit this week because even if I can = understand where she's coming from, personally I wouldn't have acted the way she did with her treatment of Kyung Suk. It was way out of line for her to yell at him or act as though it was his fault when she had feelings for him but was too scared to do anything about them in the fear of being gossiped about by others. I hope that soon she realizes that you are gossiped about regardless of what you do (especially as a girl) and you shouldn't let fear stop you from doing anything cause once you do, you will be filled with nothing but regrets later. I also straight up don't understand Soo Ah cause the girl knows that Kyung Suk basically despises her and now Mi Rae doesn't like her either so continuing to play nice is ridiculous as well as trying to get in the way of them especially since even if Mi Rae does read a situation incorrectly, Kyung Suk is going to do anything possible to clear it for her. I loved how her trying to snitch on Kyung Suk and Mi Rae going to the police station and throwing herself at him went so sideways so I was cackling since I'm living every time she gets the beatdown for literally anything. I did really enjoy the stuff with Kyung Suk's mom and sister cause it was so sweet seeing them trying to bond and how happy the sister was with something as simple as eating leftover rice her mom made.

The Ghost Detective (4/32): Lee Da Il is a private investigator. Jung Yeo Wool becomes his assistant to solve a mystery related to her younger sibling’s death. They work together to solve other mysterious crimes.

I decided to check out this drama cause I've been so low on fantasy dramas for a while now and I wanted to check a new one out but I didn't really know what this one would be about so I decided to check it out and so far I'm really enjoying it! Can you say plot twist or what??? I was totally thrown when the reveal at the end of episode 4 happened where we found out that Da Il is actually dead! I didn't think the title of this show was so literal! I've been super into detective stories as of late so I was excited that this one is about a PI. I honestly expected this show to have weekly cases but one that overarches throughout the season but now I'm thinking that the case of the red dress ghost will probably be what the whole mystery is about! I was curious at first about whether this woman in a red dress was the only ghost in this world or if there are more but now that Da Il is a ghost, we definitely know there's more. I wonder what causes one person to become a ghost and not another cause Da Il became one but Yeo Wool's sister didn't. I also wonder if there will be a reason why Yeo Wool can see ghosts when no one else can or if we'll just hand wave it away cause it seems that not only can she see them but she can touch them cause she was touching Da Il during episode 3 and 4. I was also low key hoping for a romance between our main leads and though that's technically still possible, I don't know if the show will go there now...

Thirty But Seventeen/Still Seventeen (24/32): Woo Seo Ri, a violin prodigy at 17 who was about to study in Germany, got into a bus accident and fell into a coma waking up 13 years later. Mentally she is still only 17, while physically she is now 30. Gong Woo Jin is a 30 year old single man who works as a set designer. Due to a trauma he experienced 13 years before, he does not want to have a relationship with others. This series is about a man and a woman whose lives have been mangled due to a grisly accident. Together, they use all their might to try and open the door to happiness that they once thought had been closed to them.

The first two episodes this week weren't so great but everything about the third and fourth was so incredible that it more than made up for what I didn't like in the first two. It was heartbreaking to find out that Seo Ri was invited to play just so she could be made a spectacle of and her reaction to when Woo Jin tried to warn her was heartbreaking. This included her steamrolling over his confession to her though honestly Woo Jin that was pretty sucky timing to be confessing cause of course she's going to focus on the other stuff you said! One thing this show does so well is not drag out drama and so something like this which should have taken episodes to solve was fixed in the next episode when Woo Jin and Seo Ri actually plot twist talked about their feelings! Like OMG can you even imagine? Problems can be solved by talking about them! I also adored how they supported each other but the best was how perfect their first kiss was. Both leaned in at the same time and it was beautiful! Poor Chan still has no idea and it's going to be so sad when he finds out. We're only a little past halfway through this show and it's crazy cause I feel like we're so much further along than we are! I'm glad though that these two got together now cause her doctor friend still has to come in and we need to find out what happened with her aunt and uncle cause now it seems like her aunt cut ties but her uncle is still looking out for her!

Time (24/32): This is the story of two polar opposite people that come together in tragedy. One remains stuck in time, whilst the other only has a limited amount of time left to live. Seol Ji Hyun is a woman who, although living a hard life, remains positive, upbeat and social. Cheon Soo Ho is the CEO of a restaurant and the son of a wealthy family with a terrible temper and no regard for other people. They both meet briefly under negative impressions of each other. However, their lives become entangled once more when Ji Hyun's sister dies unexpectedly in Soo Ho's residence. From there, Ji Hyun's time stops and she becomes a cold, miserable person who finds nothing to live for. But Soo Hoo, who carries heavy guilt and is drawn to her, promises to himself to use the 6 months he has left to live to help her, whose life was destroyed because of him. In the process, Soo Ho falls in love with Ji Hyun, but how far can love develop when you only have a limited time left to live?

I'm not crying, you're crying! Who cares if Soo Ho probs just died this week! Not me! I just have some dust in my eyes. I feel a little empty after this week and honestly I should have expected how sad this show was going to be from the start but I always felt like there was a hint of hope amidst the pain but recently it's been all gloom and doom! I don't know how I feel anymore and honestly neither do any of the characters! I was disappointed as hell that Ji Hyun blamed Soo Ho for everything and though I understand why most of her ire is pointed towards him (cause she trusted him more than anyone) it was breaking my heart to see how he was being treated. Soo Ho was half blind and dying and still only cared about her and I was dying right alongside him. It was sweet to watch how she was slowly thawing in the face of his kindness and I feel like if he wasn't actually terminally ill, eventually they might have been okay. I mean he's in love with this girl and she's in love with him but his guilt and her anger are blocking it out. I'm a little heartbroken that we didn't get a love confession from Soo Ho before he died and honestly I don't know how Ji Hyun can feel any emptier after losing the last person in the world who cares for her. I really do hope that this show doesn't end with Ji Hyun and Lawyer Shin together again cause he might fight against W Group with her now that he's been fired cause Lawyer Shin is an asshole and she deserves better. We've got two more weeks of episodes left if I'm calculating that correctly and honestly I don't even know if I want to keep watching this show without Soo Ho.

CDRAMA

Bloody Romance (29/36): In the turbulent interregnum following the collapse of the Tang dynasty, a young daughter of a herbalist was tricked and sold into a brothel. After a harrowing escape from death, she eventually found herself in a city of female assassins. Assuming the new name of Wan Mei, she began to learn from ropes of being an assassin from Chang An, a young man who acted as her guide and warder. Over time, Wan Mei and Chang An began to develop genuine affection for each other. But Cha Luo, the leader of the assassins took a dislike to Wan Mei and plotted against the couple with her cohorts. Wan Mei's personality and gifts caused Gong Zi, the hidden owner of Gui Hua City to take a interest on her. Burdened by his hidden identity, Chang An began to distance himself from Wan Mei. The protagonists found themselves embroiled in escalating conspiracies involving deadly betrayals and struggles for power.

I keep wavering back and forth about whether I feel bad for Gong Zi or not. One minute I want Chang An and Wan Mei to be together and the next I want her to pick Gong Zi. Mostly I think it's just a knee jerk reaction to being pissed at Chang An. Ever since I found out he was a secret king I've been a bit annoyed cause I could not give less of a shit about a royal birth secret especially when it causes Chang An to pull away from Wan Mei. It's heartbreaking every time she reaches out to him and tries to get him to tell her the truth but all he says is that he's sorry and waits until she's gone to break down. Gong Zi on the other hand is so fascinating cause I can never tell what he's thinking. I do think he's a terrible person at his core but his love for Wan Mei tempers that a bit and it was obnoxious as hell how quickly Wan Mei distrusted him. Like after all they've been through she should at least give him some credit. He literally just told you he loved you this morning, do you really think he's going to kill you in the evening? If I'm honest though, both men are such assholes and though they do love Wan Mei in their own ways, each puts things above her and that's tough cause though I understand why they do what they do, Wan Mei clearly wants someone who will put her above everything else. At the same time, she's one of the most indecisive main characters cause one minute she wants nothing but to be away from Guihua City and the next she is angry that the men in her life want to push her away and fight by themselves. Girl the only reason Chang An is saying this is cause five seconds ago that's what you wanted! If you had always wanted to be an assassin, he would have helped you with that! Make up your mind!

Fights Break Sphere (4/45): Xiao Yan is a genius child who suddenly loses all his powers.In a world governed by strength and power, Xiao Yan’s lack of talent is an embarrassment to his family. At the age of 15, Xiao Yan accidentally summons Yao Chen from his mother’s ring. With the elder’s help, Xiao Yan’s skills improve by leaps and bounds. After his entire family is assassinated, Xiao Yan embarks on a journey to find his family’s killer and return peace to the Jianghu (martial world.)

Am I little obsessed with Chinese wuxia fantasy shows? Maaaaybe. It doesn't help that there seems to be a billion to choose from and they get subbed regularly! I'm really enjoying this show so far. The main leads are both interesting and though they can be silly, they know when to focus and be serious. The female lead is in love with the male lead but plot twist she doesn't revolve around him and give up everything else!! She's just as strong as him in fighting ability and can focus on the situation at hand without panicking. It was interesting cause I started shipping them almost immediately but I thought that someone else was Xiao Yan's love interest so I debated continuing this show cause I really didn't like her very much. Fortunately I figured out that she wasn't the female lead and that brought my attention back. I'm interested to see how the male lead falls for her cause you would think after spending years with her, he'd have some sort of feelings. I'm going on the assumption that since he was engaged as a child, he never allowed himself to care for her like that. I also kind of love that the show is entering a martial arts academy cause it reminds me a bit of Hwarang and I'm hoping we get a few episodes of fun school antics before the big revenge plot kicks back up!

Martial Universe (30/40): This is a drama adapted from the novel of the same name by Tian Can Tu Dou. It is a story that talks about Lin Dong, a child from a small village who isn't favored by his family. By chance, Lin Dong obtains a mysterious artifact that is coveted by many clans in the martial world. Because of this artifact, Lin Dong is approached by many people of different clans and is forcibly involved in various events of the martial universe.

Little disappointed that Lin Dong wasn't able to figure out that Huan Huan was a fake but I do love how worried he gets whenever she's in danger cause I'm fairly certain that he has real feelings for her already but doesn't know it so he focuses all his attention on Qing Zhu in that way where you don't want to touch your deeper feelings cause you're scared. His face when Huan Huan tried to sell herself to that Ghost Puppet Sect guy was everything. As much as I love her with our crew, I keep feeling like she should go off and do something else cause I still think that Lin Dong doesn't see her true value cause he always just expects her to be around and into him. We've only got 10 episodes left so she has to leave to become the Emblem protector soon enough. It's also a little interesting but I feel like Qing Zhu might be getting some feelings for him cause she seemed jealous whenever Lin Dong and Huan Huan were arguing (flirting tbh) though I think it might be too late for her... The hunt for the emblems really feels like it should be a bigger focus than it is but after seeing how in Legend of Fu Yao, the quest was basically an afterthought so I'm just trying to enjoy what's happening and live in the moment. It's kind of annoying though cause there are like what eight emblems and we've only found two so far though we do have a map to the third and I think one of them is in Dao Sect where Huan Huan has to take over. I feel like there was way too many episodes in the beginning where nothing happened so now everything might be rushed in the last ten to conclude the story unless the show is planning to have another season or unless the show is planning to end before the Yimo are destroyed. Also sidebar but how anticlimactic that the sister died only to be brought back. Are we ever going to learn about her powers and the dark palace she got them from?

HKDRAMA

FINISHED The Stunt (25/25): The Stuntmen’s main storyline centers on Tai-Chi and May-Chu, professional stunt performers for the movie industry. May plays Chun Chun's stunt double, while Duncan plays a director.

Le sigh. So May-Chu chose Tai-Chi this week and it was sad as hell cause people are still telling her that Duncan is better for her but I guess the heart wants what it wants. Honestly I was surprised that May-Chu didn't mind at all that Tai-Chi never showed up in Taiwan for her cause he was worried about everyone else and that she gave no thought to the idea that if someone loves you, you should be their number one priority like how Duncan dropped everything to be there for her. Like the stuff with Tai-Chi's son was obviously more important but I think he could have skipped checking up on one of his friends who was perfectly fine! And idk something about him being her father figure and then her falling in love with him is kinda creepy if I'm being completely honest especially after her sleezy Uncle mentioned it today and freaked me all the way out. Also what a plot twist that May-Chu's father actually worked with the Uncle to kidnap Duncan but then felt too guilty and tried to rescue him! Poor baby Duncan! Overall I thought this show had potential at the start but we didn't get nearly enough action and stunts for me to enjoy the drama. I'd give this show a 6.5 / 10.

I'm feeling weird about this show as it goes on cause I'm enjoying pretty much everything except Mi Rae herself which sucks cause she's the main character of the show. The actress cannot act for the life of her and she literally has like two expressions and one of them makes her look uncomfortable all the time. The romance between her and Kyung Suk should be cute but instead it's just making me cringe which is a sign I'm not a fan. I'm hoping that once they actually admit their feelings for each other that maybe it'll feel less weird to me cause I do want to enjoy it. Other than the romance, I'm really enjoying watching Kyunk Suk and his mom get to know each other again which was my favorite part this week though it was weird as hell that Mi Rae tagged along cause I know she's the main character and everything but girl read a room! I'm thrilled that the truth about Kyung Suk's mom is out now and that everyone knows the truth cause the asshole dad doesn't deserve to be the good guy. I am worried about Kyung Suk's sister though cause she sort of just vanished! Also a great moment was when Soo Ah finally told Mi Rae how she felt about her and I'm so glad that Mi Rae snapped back cause I was afraid that Soo Ah would tell Mi Rae that she likes Kyung Suk and Mi Rae would back off like most drama leads do and I wouldn't have been thrilled if that happened.

This week was a bit slow and I feel like it doesn't help that we only got two episodes this week instead of the usual four! I'm glad Seo Ri is back to playing the violin and got past her fear of being terrible though it took a lot longer than I would have liked. I'm sure she's going to kill it at the concert and though her violin teacher said that it's too late for her music career, I highly doubt that cause playing an instrument has no age limit like something like modeling does so I'm sure that after the concert, she'll have plenty of people lining up to get her to play for them or with them and I can't wait cause it's seriously so sad that she lost so much of her life! I'm wondering if the man who's been paying for her hospital stay is actually her uncle cause we pretty much know that it's not Woo Jin now. I know the aunt is supposed to be a good person but who leaves their niece alone for so long and doesn't even leave a contact number or anything! It's ridiculous and I can't wait to hear what excuse she comes up with. On the other hand, Woo Jin and Seo Ri are still adorable and I loved how jealous he got over the idea of her dating someone and how flustered she got when he told her she was beautiful. Give me more of them please!!

Before I talk about the episodes this week I want to start with the news that came out this week about Kim Jung Hyun. He's leaving the show to take care of himself cause he's been going through some health stuff with overworking and ending up with an eating and sleeping disorder. Despite the fact that I'm heartbroken he's leaving cause he was the best part of this show, I do wish him well and hope that he is able to make a speedy recovery. I'll definitely look forward to his next role cause I've loved everything he's done so far. I've also read that his character will not be recast which means since the character is terminally ill anyway, the show will probably end up killing him off earlier than expected which depending on how early may make me drop this show cause I've already been on the fence about how much I'm enjoying this show since literally nothing has been progressing plot wise for weeks and Jung Hyun and the possible romance was the only thing keeping me around. Once again the first two episodes that aired this week felt a bit stagnant cause nothing really seemed to happen and I'm starting to honestly get tired of the villains constantly winning. The third and fourth episodes this week were much more intense and though I'm heartbroken with how Ji Hyun reacted to the truth, I do hope that maybe now Ji Hyun's focus will turn from trying to expose the villain crew's misdeeds and maybe focus instead of getting some sort of revenge cause we all know now that the law is not going to take our side. I'm feeling like Ji Hyun and Soo Ho are already in love with each other based on how upset she was that he was marrying Chae Ah and how he reacted when she was hurt so the marriage will probably bring that out and though I wished that the show would have gone the us against the world route after they got married, I assume that instead Soo Ho is going to do everything he can for her and then when he dies, she'll realize what she lost but I don't know how much colder she can get from here tbh but I'm kind of looking forward to her ruining everything in this rich world as long as she doesn't hurt my baby Soo Ho.

FINISHED Witch's Love (12/12): In plain sight in bustling Seoul, three generations of witches have been living below the radar of everyone around them. Kang Cho Hong operates a restaurant with her fellow witches, Maeng Ye Soon and Jo Aeng Doo. They try to keep a low profile, but Cho Hong’s youthful good looks attract the attention of a neighborhood guy, Hwang Jae Wook, who is constantly trying to get close to her. Cho Hong and her fellow witches’ quiet lives become complicated when their building landlord, Ma Sung Tae, shows up one day. Sung Tae wants to face a traumatic incident that happened to him in that building when he was a little boy. With Sung Tae nosing around their business on a regular basis, can Cho Hong keep her true identity a secret from him?

Another show that ended this week and broke my heart cause I didn't want it to end! So straight up I know that pretty much no on watched this show and at the beginning it was touch and go but once Sung Tae and Cho Hong got together, I was so so down! The amount of chemistry the two had was amazing and their kisses were killing me cause they were actual real kisses not those awkward kdrama eyes open in shock lips pressed together kisses we normally get! I loved how the show ended with a fake amnesia storyline and the reveal that the grandmothers actually saved Sung Tae's life rather than kidnapping him like he thought they did. I loved that he played along for a minute with the amnesia thing cause he was like well the woman I love wants me to act like this so maybe I should. He really was the best boyfriend! And of course he didn't care about Cho Hong being a witch which made me smile and I liked that the whole he's going to die thing was all due to the black magic witch who actually was the cause of all the trouble the witches had and that once she was dead, everything was okay. Honestly I think the romance saved the show for me cause though I love magic stuff, the magic in this was mostly an afterthought and other than Cho Hong and Sung Tae, I didn't care for pretty much anything else. I'd give it a 8.5 / 10! Is that a little high? Maybe but that's what I'm feeling right now so lay off!

FINISHED Your House Helper (32/32): The daily life of an average working woman involves: a packed subway during the rush hours, a miserable old boss, juniors clawing their way up, mounting credit card debt, and a rusty and tired body... And above all, the worst is the endless housekeeping work that awaits her at home. But what if a handsome guy appears and takes care of all the housekeeping work for her? And not only that, what if he solves the problems in her complicated and confused life? In this drama, a male house helper does housekeeping works in different women's houses and tries to solve their issues.

So this show is officially over this week and it feels right cause other than wrapping up a few loose ends there wasn't much story left. I loved that Ji Woon met his ex and they said goodbye which felt pretty real compared to how these types of goodbyes usually feel (looking at you Ximen in Meteor Garden!) Da Young and Ji Woon's relationship and how comfortable they were with teasing each other in the end was amazing and I loved that hilarious back-and-forth about how Ji Woon doesn't find Da Young attractive when she just wakes up while she is jealous of how Sang Ah is treated so well by Jin Kook. I also liked that she ended up not getting the job at the place she interned but that her mentor opened up her own ad company where she got a job. Sang Ah was also able to open up her own jewelry line and she and Jin Kook are engaged I think but I also know rings like that are basically promise rings in Korea so it could be either or in this case though if I had to pick, I'd say the second option is more likely. I was also glad that So Mi was able to forgive her brother but it was sad that we never got to see the two of them talk it out cause that would have been more impactful than her hearing about his regret from another person. It was also sad that she didn't end up with Ga Ram in the end though in my head canon they are so there. Overall I enjoyed watching this show and the themes it touched on so overall I'd give this show a 8.5 / 10!

CDRAMA

Bloody Romance (24/36): In the turbulent interregnum following the collapse of the Tang dynasty, a young daughter of a herbalist was tricked and sold into a brothel. After a harrowing escape from death, she eventually found herself in a city of female assassins. Assuming the new name of Wan Mei, she began to learn from ropes of being an assassin from Chang An, a young man who acted as her guide and warder. Over time, Wan Mei and Chang An began to develop genuine affection for each other. But Cha Luo, the leader of the assassins took a dislike to Wan Mei and plotted against the couple with her cohorts. Wan Mei's personality and gifts caused Gong Zi, the hidden owner of Gui Hua City to take a interest on her. Burdened by his hidden identity, Chang An began to distance himself from Wan Mei. The protagonists found themselves embroiled in escalating conspiracies involving deadly betrayals and struggles for power.

Ugh this is definitely the best cdrama I'm currently watching which is why it's heartbreaking that the subs don't come out fast enough! This week we got more angst from Chang An and Wan Mei but they're officially back together now as master and shadow though that only got done because Wan Mei had to take some sort of magic inside her that causes Chang An pain anytime he's within 1/3 of a meter of her which right now means nothing cause Wan Mei is still a little pissed at him but eventually it'll become more of a problem I'm assuming. We all know that she's heartbroken but rather than losing her temper whenever he's around, I did wish that Wan Mei was a little colder to him cause everyone technically knows her feels towards him but it wouldn't hurt to make it less obvious! I also don't entirely understand that other assassin who came into Guihua City with Wan Mei cause I thought after last week she was on Wan Mei's side over Cha Luo so betraying her that quickly felt a little confusing. I do love Chang An and Wan Mei though so I was living for their angst though I do wish that he would feel a little more jealous of Gong Zi but hopefully that's coming in the future. Speaking of, I still adore him and the friendship he's built with Wan Mei though trying to sleep with her wasn't the best move when he knows that she's in love with Chang An. Oh well. He did protect her and she still cares for him so I'm not too worried about that cause she was the second to kneel to him after his right hand woman.

Martial Universe (24/40): This is a drama adapted from the novel of the same name by Tian Can Tu Dou. It is a story that talks about Lin Dong, a child from a small village who isn't favored by his family. By chance, Lin Dong obtains a mysterious artifact that is coveted by many clans in the martial world. Because of this artifact, Lin Dong is approached by many people of different clans and is forcibly involved in various events of the martial universe.

It took me a while to start this drama even though I had finished Legend of Fu Yao and needed a new cdrama to take it's place because I heard that the book this drama was based off of had a harem ending in that Lin Dong fell in love with two women and married them both. Now maybe this is just me but I like my romances to be the one and only for the main character even if it's normal in this time period to have multiple wives. Eventually I started to hear rumors that this show wasn't actually a harem and that one women was Lin Dong's first love and the other was his actual true love and once I heard that, I finally checked it out and I'm glad I did cause I'm enjoying it so far! It's much sillier than I expected and it took me a second to get used to it but once I did I loved it. Lin Dong being silly and energetic was interesting since you don't usually see that kind of male lead in these shows and the same goes for Huan Huan who's adorable and for some reason didn't rub me the wrong way even though she's a bit naive at the start. I already love these two and I kind of love that both are so crazy and energetic cause we rarely see that kind of couple as one or the other is usually more serious in dramas. I'm also enjoying all other characters as well including the budding romance between Lin Dong's adoptive sister and Lang Tian and though I'm really not into how crazy Lin Dong is for Qing Zhu (cause I really don't ship them), I'm into the idea that Huan Huan's destiny is to give up all emotion to be the ice successor. Girl just needs to tone down her devotion a bit cause absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that! I did like that Lin Dong could feel as though fake Huan Huan was different cause it clearly means he's spent enough time with her to know that she wasn't the same as before but he kept dismissing it which was sad. I kind of hope this ruse continues for a little while longer even if Huan Huan is back with our crew, maybe through a kidnapping?

FINISHED Meteor Garden (50/50): An ordinary girl is admitted to the most prestigious school in the country where she encounters F4, an exclusive group comprised of the four wealthiest and handsomest boys in the school - Dao Ming Si, Hua Ze Lei, Xi Men and Mei Zuo.

The finale week of Meteor Garden is here and I'm heartbroken cause despite all the ups and downs I've had while watching this show and all the craziness that the show portrayed, I've really enjoyed watching this show and it was leagues better than Hana Yori Dango which was the only previous version of this show that I've seen! I loved that the really dumb amnesia thing only took a few minutes out of one episode and that even better, it was faked by Si cause honestly amnesia where he forgot one person was always the silliest to me. The marriage proposal was honestly so them too. Like of course Si would just blurt it out over dinner like a weirdo but aside from the fact that I feel like they're too young for marriage (though that's just a me thing cause I'm older than Si and I am nowhere near ready to get married) it was sweet. I'm also a little glad that we got one last stand from Si's mom cause her approval came out of nowhere and I was straight up waiting for the entire last chunk of episodes for her to do something cause if she were to give in, it would have felt more real if she had this change of heart right after Si got stabbed not episodes later after she told off Shan Cai for the hundredth time. I love that Shan Cai and Si were able to prove to her just how much they love each other and that Si was the one to come up with a plan to say the company cause his mom straight up is the worst and didn't even bother asking her kids if they had any plans and just steamrolled over them with her ideas. Their wedding was a bit much but I guess I should have expected that in hindsight. I also adored Xiaoyou and Ximen and I loved that he finally accepted his feelings for her. I was living for how flustered ladies man Ximen was around the first girl he had real feelings for. His heart eyes made me melt and I loved that he was so shocked his smooth plan didn't work even if Xiayou didn't really care. I may or may not have fallen more in love with them in this final chunk of episodes than I ever expected to and wish that we could have gotten more from instead of Caina or even Si and Shan Cai's billionth breakup! Overall I would definitely give this show a 8.5 / 10!

TWDRAMA

DROPPED Love And π (4/15): Zhao Wu Xian, Zhao Yuan Man, Hou Zi Cheng and Lin Mei Xin are good friends who grew up together in the same orphanage in Yun Lin. In year 2009, Wu Xian, Yuan Man and Zi Cheng went to Taipei to pursue their dreams. They will be facing some challenges on the way, how will they overcome it? Yuan Man thinks of her relationship with Wu Xian as siblings whereas Wu Xian does not. He wants to protect Yuan Man forever and would like her to be his partner. However this journey of love is not smooth, and may even reach bottleneck. However, their “Love” will definitely follow the “Circle” (Yuan/π) and back on its path again.

I started this show cause it sounded kind of cute but I don't think I want to keep watching it cause I've found that a lot of TWDramas feel stagnant like there's nothing going on which sometimes I enjoy but a lot of the time I find kind of boring. In the case of this show, I'm leaning more towards boring which is sad cause I do hate dropping shows. I did enjoy the relationship between Wu Xian and Yuan Yuan cause you know me and my love for the friends to lovers trope and I liked the idea that despite knowing that they ultimately belong together, Yuan Yuan did branch out and date someone else cause I hate the idea that in these shows the female lead is always constantly waiting around for the guy she likes (like in Single Ladies Senior) so I'm down with her dating someone else before returning to Wu Xian. I also really did like the guy she dated at first cause he was so romantic and sweet but it seems as the episodes go on, he's a bit of a player and maybe not as sweet as I thought he was so I'm sort of getting over him as a character. Nothing else is holding my attention. All of the side characters are really boring and I just can't find myself wanting to watch any more episodes...

HKDRAMA

The Stunt (19/25): The Stuntmen’s main storyline centers on Tai-Chi and May-Chu, professional stunt performers for the movie industry. May plays Chun Chun's stunt double, while Duncan plays a director.

Ugh guys I'm so far down the second lead rabbit hole that it's embarrassing. Why do I always end up here? This is why I need a show to tell me who the male lead is before I start it cause otherwise I can't force myself to ignore the second lead cause in the back of my mind I hope that he could be the lead after all. I mean stupid things like the fact that May-Chu's mom compared her relationship with Duncan to the one she had with May-Chu's father. Or the fact that May-Chu reacted more to when her mom mentioned being in love with Duncan than Tai-Chi when if she had no feelings for him she wouldn't have reacted at all or been indifferent. Again it's sad cause I know May-Chu loves Tai-Chi because of how jealous she is anytime Daisy is around and the fact that Chun Chun is around to be Duncan's love interest. All of this said, the heart wants what it wants and I can't keep it from skipping a beat during Duncan's confessions and whenever you see how much happier May-Chu is around Duncan than Tai-Chi and the sweet thing is that even May-Chu knows that cause she's told several people that Duncan makes her happy so it's not just me with my shipper glasses on. Though sidebar Tai-Chi dreamt of kissing May-Chu and man was it hot so I seriously need to see Duncan kiss her now in order to compare but at the very very least I know I won't be that opposed to May-Chu picking Tai-Chi in the end (unlike in Single Ladies Senior or A Poem A Day.) If I were May-Chu I would pick Duncan especially since he's been with her every step of the way in Taiwan and Tai-Chi wasn't. Even though it wasn't his fault AT ALL that he couldn't be there for her, feelings aren't always rational and knowing that the person you love wasn't with you when you needed them the most hurts like hell.

My ID Is Gangnam Beauty (8/16): Adapted from a popular webtoon, this drama tells of Kang Mi Rae, a girl once bullied for her looks. As a result, she became insecure, cautious around people and withdrawn. However, Mi Rae decides she wants a fresh start away from bullying and gets plastic surgery to transform her face. When she begins university, she meets Do Kyung Suk from their middle school days, who sees people for what they are on the inside and not the outside; he then becomes attracted to Kang Mi Rae. As Mi Rae begins to get teased once more and labeled "Gangnam Beauty", the cold, aloof but kind inside Kyung Suk becomes the one person that stands up for her and in the process, Mi Rae begins to recover her lost confidence and discovers that true beauty is not on the outside.

My god isn't Soo Ah just the absolute worst? It was one thing when she kept trying to get between Mi Rae and Kyung Suk cause I just assumed she didn't want to be "beaten" by Mi Rae but after this week when she started to try to ruin another relationship, I'm stunned. She's that much of an attention seeker that she cannot let a single guy be interested in another girl besides her? It's honestly disgusting and I'm sure at some point the show will try to redeem her with a sob story and it'll allow everyone to forgive her but I'm not sure any kind of sad backstory would be enough for her to act like this. Can anyone say daddy issues? On the other hand I loved that Kyung Suk learned about what actually happened when his parents divorced and that ironically it was his dad who spit it all out trying to cover his ass in the belief that his mom already told him. I'm glad the truth came out cause I thought since last week that the relationship was a bit manipulative and I didn't like the idea that Kyung Suk blamed her for leaving but after finding out that his dad hit her hard enough to make her lose her sense of smell, it was horrific and good on her for getting out! I did like the idea that Kyung Suk was so horrified that he left home but I kind of wanted him to go stay with his mom like I assumed he would but maybe he hasn't forgiven her entirely yet so that's why he didn't go to her. Mi Rae and Kyung Suk are still adorable and I wish their date had been a little less awkward but she was worrying about trying to treat him like a friend. I'm also glad that now that they're mostly on the same page regarding his mom that we won't have to see Mi Rae go against his wishes anymore on behalf of his mom. I'm a little curious as to why every single time Kyung Suk and Soo Ah are near each other everyone starts talking about what a cute couple they are but when Mi Rae is around Kyung Suk (and that happens more often) no one says anything or even cares. It's weird as hell. Also sidebar but I actually think Eun is more beautiful than any of the girls and it throws me that the show keeps telling us that she's average looking.

Thirty But Seventeen/Still Seventeen (18/32): Woo Seo Ri, a violin prodigy at 17 who was about to study in Germany, got into a bus accident and fell into a coma waking up 13 years later. Mentally she is still only 17, while physically she is now 30. Gong Woo Jin is a 30 year old single man who works as a set designer. Due to a trauma he experienced 13 years before, he does not want to have a relationship with others. This series is about a man and a woman whose lives have been mangled due to a grisly accident. Together, they use all their might to try and open the door to happiness that they once thought had been closed to them.

Only two episodes aired this week and I'm heartbroken cause I adore this show! I adore how the relationship between Seo Ri and Woo Jin is progressing and honestly when I first read the description for this show I wasn't sure how the relationship would work cause even if Seo Ri is physcially 30, she was mentally 17 and it felt kind of sketch to have her fall for a 30 year old. After watching 18 episodes, I actually think the relationship really works cause Woo Jin is basically a child too after cutting off his emotions for so long and I like that neither one has has any real relationship experience so this is all new to them. Woo Jin's sister was so sweet and I loved how happy she was that Woo Jin wasn't stuck in his trauma anymore and I liked that she left after figuring out the truth and knowing that Seo Ri was the one to bring her brother's smile back. He officially knows that he likes her and Seo Ri is on her way to realizing it too. I also loved that Woo Jin decided not to sell the house and it makes me kind of hope that by the end of this show the two of them stay there with Jennifer and Fang while Chan and his friends pop by for visits. Speaking of poor Chan, I think he finally realized this week that Seo Ri and Woo Jin are into each other and it breaks my heart cause he's so adorable but I still do think that he's going to step aside cause he loves his uncle so much.

Time (16/32): This is the story of two polar opposite people that come together in tragedy. One remains stuck in time, whilst the other only has a limited amount of time left to live. Seol Ji Hyun is a woman who, although living a hard life, remains positive, upbeat and social. Cheon Soo Ho is the CEO of a restaurant and the son of a wealthy family with a terrible temper and no regard for other people. They both meet briefly under negative impressions of each other. However, their lives become entangled once more when Ji Hyun's sister dies unexpectedly in Soo Ho's residence. From there, Ji Hyun's time stops and she becomes a cold, miserable person who finds nothing to live for. But Soo Hoo, who carries heavy guilt and is drawn to her, promises to himself to use the 6 months he has left to live to help her, whose life was destroyed because of him. In the process, Soo Ho falls in love with Ji Hyun, but how far can love develop when you only have a limited time left to live?

Every week I feel more and more horrible for poor Soo Ho! He has no memory of what happened and he already thinks so lowly of himself that of course if someone told him he killed Ji Hyun's sister, he'd believe it. It's honestly so upsetting cause we were finally on the offensive with our crew getting proof that Chae Ah was a part of the hotel murder and we were able to beat the Lawyer Shin to the punch by getting the documentary aired but it was all for naught after Chae Ah convinced Soo Ho that he was the murderer by literally showing the evidence she had. I really really need our crew to find the flashdrive with the pool footage cause I absolutely refuse to believe that it's gone cause how else are we going to be able to prove that Soo Ho had nothing to do with the death?? It seriously makes my blood boil watching Chae Ah and Lawyer Shin run around like they're in the right! I was really hoping that Soo Ho would have told Ji Hyun the truth before the documentary came out but of course that would be the least dramatic way to reveal this so of course she had to find out some other way. I was surprised though that no one snitched on Soo Ho to Ji Hyun to make her leave his side though cause I really did expect someone to do it just to mess with our crew!

Witch's Love (10/12): In plain sight in bustling Seoul, three generations of witches have been living below the radar of everyone around them. Kang Cho Hong operates a restaurant with her fellow witches, Maeng Ye Soon and Jo Aeng Doo. They try to keep a low profile, but Cho Hong’s youthful good looks attract the attention of a neighborhood guy, Hwang Jae Wook, who is constantly trying to get close to her. Cho Hong and her fellow witches’ quiet lives become complicated when their building landlord, Ma Sung Tae, shows up one day. Sung Tae wants to face a traumatic incident that happened to him in that building when he was a little boy. With Sung Tae nosing around their business on a regular basis, can Cho Hong keep her true identity a secret from him?

So we got an info dump this week from Jae Wook being Cho Hong's destined man to Sung Tae being told the truth about Cho Hong to who actually was hurt by the witches. It's actually kind of funny cause Jae Wook's backstory is a pretty normal kdrama main lead story in that they should be childhood lovers so in most shows he would be the one Cho Hong chooses but in this show Cho Hong (and me) has already been won over by Sung Tae. We have been told though that something weird is going on with Cho Hong and Sung Tae from the evil witch cause not only does her witch mark flickers into existence for a bit whenever she's happy with Sung Tae but stuff if happening in the witch's home so I wonder if maybe the whole destined man thing has more to do with loving someone and them loving her back rather than what we've been told so far. Having said all that, I am so glad that Cho Hong was the one to tell Sung Tae the truth cause dramas never let our characters tell the truth when there's a secret. There's ALWAYS a third party butting in! I also really want to know about Jae Wook and how him drawing a bleeding nose on Sung Tae actually made that come true. I would be super thrown if it turned out that he was a witch too or even crazier if he was the actual witch and he willed all the soup rice women into being but I have a feeling it might just be a one off or a joke added post credits. Also can we take a moment to gush about how amazing Sung Tae is? He says all the most romantic things even when he doesn't mean to and he has no problem with admitting that he's said or done something wrong and apologizing for it immediately. It's also precious that any time he gets slightly upset, Cho Hong basically charms him into forgetting it! I love that the show doesn't shy away from our leads kissing or hugging cause it makes their relationship feel more real! We also learned that the soup place is definitely where he got "kidnapped" but I have a feeling that he was actually saved by the soup witches and that Cho Hong's mom tried to kill her daughter but the witches stopped her and then used the knife to erase Cho Hong's memories somehow which is why Sung Tae thinks he was stabbed. I'm so excited and sad to see the finale next week!

Your House Helper (30/32): The daily life of an average working woman involves: a packed subway during the rush hours, a miserable old boss, juniors clawing their way up, mounting credit card debt, and a rusty and tired body... And above all, the worst is the endless housekeeping work that awaits her at home. But what if a handsome guy appears and takes care of all the housekeeping work for her? And not only that, what if he solves the problems in her complicated and confused life? In this drama, a male house helper does housekeeping works in different women's houses and tries to solve their issues.

So it was supposed to be finale week but for some reason only two episodes aired instead of four so we're going to be getting some more of this show next week which is kinda annoying cause I want all the episodes now! Honestly I feel like this show has flown by so quickly and I think it's because there's so little contrived drama that it doesn't make my blood boil or make me roll my eyes so I've just been consuming this show like popcorn. It's strange how much I actually ended up enjoying this show cause normally I can't watch shows that have no stakes and at first glance that's what's happening here but when you look at the show closer you realize that there actually are plenty of stakes and things happening but the drama is super realistic which is why it doesn't feel so intense! I loved watching all the characters grow and find themselves and find relationships! I loved that Da Yeong gave Ji Woon the address to his ex's new place regardless of how sad it made her cause it proves what an amazing person she is. I loved that So Mi confronted her brother and has gotten over her fear of men. I loved that Sang Ah followed her dream of being a jewelry designer not matter how scared she was of not being able to do it again.

Ugh it's so nice to fall in love with a new drama cause I had been in a drama slump for a little while after I finished The Masked Lover back at the start of August. I usually like to keep up with all my currently airing dramas and binge some more but I struggled to find one I liked. I started this drama with practically no expectations and hardcore fell in love practically from the moment I started it. The idea of the show was fascinating cause I haven't seen a lot of shows with assassins in it and I liked that the world though still mystical and magical like most cdramas set in the past, it felt a little more grounded and real in a way. I loved Wan Mei's character and how she's sentimental and softhearted but still smart and strong in her own way. Naive characters or characters who know nothing but act like they know everything are my least favorite and Wan Mei though she started out a little ignorant, knew that about herself and actually asked questions rather than assuming. I love her relationship with Chang An and how it progressed. I loved that both fell in love and both knew how the other felt without having to go through the anxiety of wanting to know if the person they loved loved them too. Their breakup reason was also amazing cause it actually felt believable for once and I completely understood why both did what they did even if I wish Chang An had told her the truth cause he should have known that she would support him no matter what (you know my preference for us against the world tropes!) Gong Zi is also a really fun character and his dynamic with Wan Mei is amazing too and I love that he's still supporting her which makes me want her to see him as a good friend if not a lover (may or may not have a bit of SLS) so I'm really sad that in order for him to live, she has to die. All of the other characters in the show are fun as well and I like the amount of politics we've gotten so far. The assassination missions are so exciting as well and the only thing I'm not a fan of is Gong Zi's right hand woman who is the annoying second female lead who gets so jealous that she goes out of her way to ruin things for the main girl. Now that Wan Mei's been healed, I'm less annoyed with her but it was touch and go for a while!

I adore Xiayou and Ximen and I was all about their relationship and I'm still all about it but I'm glad we ended where we did! Although we the audience know that Ximen is into Xiayou, she doesn't know that and she's got no indication from him that he likes her so it seemed really crazy of her to run around for such a long time trying to make him happy or trying to force emotions onto him cause that's what I hate in shows. I am glad though that she did give it her all before giving up and talking about dating again. I want my girl with Ximen in the end but I want her to date someone else and allow Ximen to realize how much he likes her and get jealous! She needs to make him work for it. On the other end Si and Shan Cai were doing great and of course since it's been a while since they've been anything but fluffy and adorable, it was about time for the drama to jump up again even if I don't want it. At this point I don't even understand the reasons for their breakups and hardcore I don't even care cause it's just a wait until they get back together though guys when Si cries, I do too cause he's just so precious. But let's focus on the stuff I adored this week like just how whipped Si is and how much Shan Cai wears the pants in the relationship and I'm living cause he hasn't complained for one second and I bet even if the F4 say something about him being whipped, he'd be like yes all proud. He's so adorable.

HKDRAMA

This show is the first Hong Kong drama that I've ever watched, not because of any particular reason other than the fact that HKDramas rarely pop up on my drama feeds so I've never checked one out before. After watching about 9 episodes of this show I'm pretty down for this one cause not only is the concept something really unique but I'm loving watching all those stunts being done! I love the OTT team and seeing how stunts are done behind the scenes! I'm so down with May-Chu and Tai-Chi and Duncan as characters though I'm hardcore feeling the second lead syndrome cause I want May-Chu with Duncan but I'm fairly certain that she'll end up with Tai-Chi based on what I know about dramas. HKDramas are similar to TWDramas in that they always try to keep you guessing about who the male lead is. I'm not opposed to Tai-Chi and May-Chu cause I did love them together at the start but as the show went on and we learned more about Duncan, I fell in love with his character. It also doesn't help that I think he's so much more attractive than Tai-Chi or the fact that Tai-Chi is so much older than May-Chu and acts like her father half the time though I think that's more of a front cause he's always the first to step up and be jealous. The only thing I'm not into with this show is Chun Chun and the whole acting world cause I don't really care. I could see the show putting Duncan and Chun Chun together which again I'm not the most thrilled with but at least he'd end up happy if (but most likely when) May-Chu doesn't pick him.
