Top 10 TV Shows Of 2021

Hi everyone! As promised, I'm back with my Top 10 Favorite TV Shows of 2021! Again, this list is based on my personal opinions and may have spoilers. I'm going to start with some honorable mentions which are some shows that I binged this year but that aren't on air anymore followed by my actual Top 10 list! Fair warning, there may be spoilers below so keep that in mind!

What If...?

Coming in at number 10 is What If! So we're all surprise that the last show on my list would be a Marvel one but I think something about the fact that this show is kinda outside MCU canon and animated makes it feel like it had less stakes than the others. I also have to say that the standalone aspect of this show made for a mixed bag cause it meant that there were weeks that I really enjoyed myself and weeks that I was tuning out though I liked the way it all tied together at the end and that this show basically redeemed Ultron as a villain cause it was the first time I was actually scared for him and the consequences of his evil plots!  

Stargirl

At number 9 is Stargirl! So I ended up liking this season a ton more than the previous one mostly cause now that everyone who was important knew Courtney's secret we could see a lot more fun family kicking ass time and honestly between this and Superman & Lois apparently this is a thing that I've always wanted but never known I needed. I loved the villain of the season and the way it redeemed others from last season but of course given that it's so low on my list there were flaws. I really didn't care for any of the team splitting nonsense this season gave us and I'm still torn over Cameron's role in this show but other than that it's a good season of a good show.

Legends Of Tomorrow

Coming in at number 8 is Legends Of Tomorrow! It's honestly kinda sad how far this show has fallen from my favor cause honestly even a season ago I would have ranted and raved about the fact that this is my favorite superhero show on air right now. Like don't get me wrong it's not a bad show anymore and it's definitely not Flash levels of unwatchable but I think I'm just bitter about the fact that the show had to write off Constantine's character cause of the DC overlords needing him in the movies and the fact that removing him removed a lot of Zari 2.0's screen time when she's my favorite in this show. I did think it was creative of this recent season to force our characters to stay in one time period for an extended amount of time and I am open to seeing what's next when the midseason break is over.

Wandavision

At number 7 is Wandavision! This show is hilarious cause I really couldn't decide where it deserves to go cause honestly when I heard about all the Marvel Disney+ that were slated to come out this year this one was probs bottom of the list and having watched it all it's still not my most favorite storyline but I can't help wanting to put it higher on my list just cause of how I can't separate the fan hype from the actual show. This was the first Marvel thing we had gotten in almost two years since Endgame came out and it was coming out weekly so though in hindsight our expectations were too high it was so much fun to speculate week in and out. I also have to say this show succeeded on one level just for making me actually care about Wanda when before I really didn't and for giving us Agatha who's a gem.

Hawkeye

Coming in at number 6 is Hawkeye! Honestly two weeks ago this might have ended up higher on my list than 6 but the finale didn't do this show all that much in my eyes which is why it's here. I really liked Kate Bishop as a character and I was thrilled that Clint didn't end up dying at the end like I was afraid of. I also loved that we got Kingpin and Yelena though I think both were a little underutilized. Kingpin wasn't nearly as terrifying as he was in Daredevil in this show and I think that can be chalked up to him being off screen for most of this show but Yelena's writing was totally all over the place. It made no sense that she was so sure that Natasha would never sacrifice herself for the greater good when that was Natasha to the core and it also made no sense how easily Clint convinced her to see the truth. I did really like the emphasis on trick arrows though and that chase through the city might still be one of the best moments in this show.

Loki

At number 5 is Loki. Okay so look Loki has always been one of my favorite Marvel characters so at first glance you'd think that would make my ranking of this show feel unfair but I think that actually it was a disadvantage for this show cause that meant that I would have much higher expectations for this show going on and yet this show hit them anyway. I loved the characterization of Loki throughout this show and the way we saw him go from the villain in Avengers to the antihero in Thor Ragnarok and find love even if it's with a version of himself. I loved the timeline shenanigans and the fact that it introduced Kang to us in such a perfect way when I think he'll end up being an overarching Marvel villain for this phase!

Wheel Of Time

Coming in at number 4 is Wheel Of Time! So to be honest this might be a show that no one is watching cause I haven't heard anyone talk about it but it's an adaptation of a popular book series that my brother is into which is why I ended up checking it out and it ended up being a lot better than I thought it would be. I adore fantasy shows and I never think there's enough out there which is why if one can keep my attention for long enough I think it's worth a shot. So yes I've heard it's a shitty book adaptation but in my opinion it's a pretty solid tv show outside of that. Moiraine is the best character though Lan is up there too and I love the world that this show has built. Yes the pacing for this show is a little off and yes I feel like Rand who's actually supposed to be the main character of this show is one of the weakest with the dumbest rationale for why he does what he does but I have higher hopes for all that to get better. I do also hope that future seasons will expand the complexity of the characters and the world so it's not as simplistic as it is now. 

Leverage: Redemption

At number 3 is Leverage: Redemption! So this show is more of a sequel series to the original Leverage rather than a reboot and I think that's one of the best parts of it. The show feels exactly like an extension of the original season with the same vibe and characters and actions but with a slight upgrade so we're facing more modern day problems. Every case is exciting and fun to watch and I'm so glad that it stuck with it's episodic approach rather than upgrading to the more modern day serial telling of a story cause that means we got more cons and we actually got to see our heroes win every episode. It's truly a love letter to the original show and I really hope we get more.

Superman & Lois

Coming in at number 2 is Superman & Lois. This show was a true shock to me when I first watched it cause I went through a whole emotional rollercoaster with it. When I first heard about this show I was hesitant to care given how little I've liked Supergirl since season 2 was the only good season in my opinion but when the trailers came out I was shocked at how beautiful it looked. Now having seen the whole first season it's hands down the best superhero show airing on tv right now. The acting, writing, and cinematography are out of this world. Characters actually feel like real people with the way they react to situations and nothing feels cheesy or overdone. The Kent family feels like they would die for each other and I love the way they all work together to get things done. I also love that Lois and Clark both have real purposes in this show so that neither feel like they need to reduce themselves in order to make the other have a purpose like Barry and Iris on the Flash. If you haven't seen this show by now you have to!

The Witcher

And finally last but not least my number 1 show of 2021 is The Witcher! I mean seriously could it have been anything else? I absolutely adored the first season of this show and somehow this second season upped it's game in ways that I didn't expect and made me love it even more than the first. I've never read the books for this series but I've heard it's an excellent adaptation of them which makes me happy for those fans since it's so rare that it happens. I loved that this season expanded on the world in a way that we not only saw more kingdoms and players but that it did the thing I said Wheel Of Time didn't and made everything more complex. I loved that as the show went on we started to question if anyone is on the right side or if everyone is a different shade of bad and who we should root for. I loved that our characters finally all met up and are working towards a goal even if we don't yet know what it is. Every actor is hitting it out of the park with their acting and of course the fights and the cinematography are to die for!

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

  Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive right in shall we?

Horimiya Season 1 Episode 8

I was a little sad that Hori and Miyamura were so far in the background this week but what we did get of them was funny enough that maybe I didn't mind all that much! Hori basically asks Miyamura to act all tough and tsundere for her and he tries his absolute damndest but fails which is totally precious though the funnier part of the episode was how all the friends knew right away that Hori had requested it! We also got a touch more of Miyamura's backstory and how not only was he hurting himself with the piercings and tattoos but he was also low key suicidal and it honestly breaks my heart a little how everything with him before was so dark and in another show it would be the focus but here it's so lightly touched on that sometimes I wonder if I'm the one overreacting. We also got more from Yuki this week and how this super hot guy from a different class in their year asked her out but while she said no this week I have a feeling that maybe the two will end up together by the end since Yanagi just seems too sweet and pure to be a one-off. It would also resolve the love triangle Yuki and Sakura aren't fighting over Toru! 

Superman & Lois Season 1 Episode 2

I'm still really loving this show and it's insane budget which I actually found out is due to the fact that this show is being co-produced by HBO hence the beauty that is the cinematography of this show. I do wish that there was something in this show I could latch onto emotionally cause of as of now it's like one of the award winning shows or movies that objectively I can tell is excellent but I'm just kinda meh about it. I don't know if it's cause there's no romance to connect to or if the show is just aimed for teens rather than adults like me but either way there's something missing. I do have to say though that someone brought up a point last week that of Clark and Lois it should have been Lois that struggled with being a parent and after I heard that I can't unhear it. Clark should have been the one to always be around cause of his great parents while Lois was the workaholic and part of me wonders if this is a sexism thing since duh the woman has to be a good mom. I really hope with this Morgan Edge thing that Lois will actually get something to do outside of being there for the family and I really hope that they are able to portray Lois the reporter much much better than the Flash ever did with Iris. Clark and Jordan started to bond more over their Kryptonian heritage though Jor El claims that Jordan only has a fraction of the powers that Clark has which makes me think that he'll be at the level of Connor Kent's Superboy rather than Superman so maybe he'll be able to have super strength and durability and laser vision but that's all. I also thought it was sweet that Jordan was named after Jor El which I should have realized last week but it totally escaped me. Jonathon is also super sweet though cause he really did agree to give up his whole life for Jordan and I really just want all the best for him. I also think we practically got a reveal that Captain Luthor is a Luthor from another multiverse rather than planet cause he seemed to be fighting an evil Superman in his flashbacks and he knew General Lane.

Okay seriously the writers need to chill with Jordan's outbursts. Like we get it he's a moody teen but there's no need for him to constantly be horrible with Clark when he knows that his parents love him even if they struggle sometimes! Also Morgan Edge low key just torched Lois's car? I guess he was really threatened by Lois after all.

The Flash Season 7 Episode 1

With Arrow gone and me not so interested in Supergirl or Batwoman or Black Lightning, Flash is the only OG Arrowverse show (other than Legends which I'm counting down the months until!) currently airing and I didn't realize how much I missed it until now! I still don't love that like Riverdale we have to wrap up last season's problems before moving onto the new stuff but I'm going to pretend like Arrow Season 6 and 7 that the villain from last season was saved for another season on purpose. Lots of changes have occurred though like Ralph being written off the show due to the actor's misconducts in real life (which makes me sad cause I adored Ralph) and I'm wondering if Tom Cavanagh is done with this show too now that Nash gave himself up to get back Barry's speed. The news claim that Tom's not done with season 7 yet so unless there's an extended flashback or we time travel or bring a Wells from one of the multiverses that survived but our characters don't know about yet, I'm not sure what that means. I also missed Caitlin and Cisco and I really wish the show would stop writing them off for Allegra and Chester cause I really don't care for them. I want my OG Flash team and I really wish this season we'd dial back the Frost as well. Iris was also still stuck in the mirrorverse but she managed to realize that she was being played by Eva still rather than losing her mind cause she's a badass. The more important thing is that Eva realized that she actually did die on the night of the particle accelerator and that she was a mirror copy which really does have to screw with her cause can you even imagine finding something like that out??

The promo shows that Cisco and Frost are back next week which is awesome and I really should stop expecting Caitlin by now cause clearly the show likes Frost more and I will never understand how Caitlin who is the main personality is just cool with no longer living her life. I do know that the previous season was supposed to have 22 episodes but we stopped at 19 due to production shutting down so if we count this week then this storyline with Eva should end in 3 or so episodes making me wonder if we will really get Iris back next week.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 Episodes 21

We had a mellow episode this week to combat all the craziness we experienced over the past few weeks when our kids were fighting special grade spirits and each other. The baseball game was cheesy and all but I think that this whole tournament arc did manage to get me to connect with some of the ensemble which is the only time that slice of life shows work. I did like the way everything that went down was linked back to that beach meeting we saw the curse spirits have all those weeks ago cause I totally forgot what they discussed there and it was so fun to see how well written this show is. Their plan was to use the cursed spirits and the veil to distract the Jujutsu sorcerers into focusing on the kids so that they could sneak in and steal one of the fingers which is exactly why Itadori should have eaten them!! I mean I get the idea of being afraid that the more Itadori eats the more he might lose control but it seems like the devil you know is better than letting it get loose! I do wonder where the rest of the season will end up going cause we only really have 3 episodes to go and that's too short of a episode count to begin a new arc unless it's a short and silly one.

FINISHED Wandavision Season 1 Episode 9

Hmmm I don’t entirely know what to say about this finale cause I’m torn over whether or not this ending disappointed me or if I was just overwhelmed by all the fan hype surrounding this show and in all actuality this finale was perfectly average. Here’s the thing. This show doesn’t entirely feel like it came to an end but as if we paused the story in order to tell it later. Yes the hex was fixed and yes the people of Westview are free to go but Wanda just discovered her new powers and is studying them. The funny thing is that I kinda expected her to go to Dr Strange cause if anyone could help her with magic in the right way it would have been him but instead we see that she’s reading the Darkhold making me wonder if she really will be the villain of Dr Strange 2 given that we know she’s in that movie. Haywood was arrested and Monica met up with one of the Skrull who I’m assuming are going to take her to the space station where Fury was in Spider-Man Far From Home. White Vision also did seem to get his memories back but he flew away and disappeared making me wonder if he’ll be a new character or not cause he’s still a robot given that he doesn’t have the mind stone in him. We also found out that Evan Peters was actually Ralph all along and he really was just stunt casting as a wink and a nod to the fans so I’m still hoping that Marvel will bring back Aaron at some point!

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

 Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive right in shall we?

Horimiya Season 1 Episode 7

Something about this show just hits all my feelings and I'm thrilled as can be that I've gained a new romance shoujo anime to go on my list. We spent the first half with Yuki who apparently had a crush on Toru and it makes me feel bad cause we also know that Sakura likes him but after seeing how much Yuki gives up everything that she wants for others, I really want Toru to like her too especially since something about Sakura has never clicked with me so I wasn't sure if I wanted Toru with her and now we have options! I'm not entirely sure if there's enough time in this series to give to Toru falling for another girl but since Hori and Miyamura are so sweet and their relationship has been sailing smoothly maybe we do? In terms of my adorable main couple, Miyamura went away for a week and he ended up forgetting his phone charger so the two were apart for a whole week without any communication. I really liked that rather than buckle down on the cliches and make it so that Hori was pissed at Miyamura for not texting her or worried that he wasn't interested that she just told him she missed him and went to see him as soon as she could. Also are we meant to believe that the two slept together while it rained cause it was definitely suggestive in the wink wink nudge nudge sort of way!!!

Superman & Lois Season 1 Episode 1

When I first heard this show was going to be a thing I wasn't very interested but then I saw the trailer and it reminded me so much of a movie rather than the typical Arrowverse show and now after having seen the first episode, I have to say I'm so torn. I really like the world this show is building and there's something sweet about the idea of the Superfamily living their life in Smallville but I can't decide if this show is meant to be outside of the Arrowverse. Last we saw in Crisis On Infinite Earths Jonathan and Jordan had just been born but this show takes place 14 years later. Are we meant to think that this is 14 years in the future therefore none of the Arrowverse continuity matters? What about the cameo we got in the end of Lex Luthor? Will he be the same Lex from Supergirl or a different one? I also don't know how I feel about the balance between the superheroics and the family stuff. Is Clark our main lead or is it Jordan? Every time we cut to Clark fighting Lex in that suit I kinda felt like oh okay cool let's go back to the others now even though the CGI was impeccable and every Superman scene we've had was beyond amazing. Maybe as the show goes on I'll be able to get on board though part of me wonders if this show will be long running or more of a miniseries based on how it feels up to par with some of the Marvel Disney+ shows like Wandavision.

So the promo that aired was actually more of a sizzle reel for the rest of the season. It does look like the Superfamily will be moving to Smallville and they'll be struggling to balance the super life with normal life. I do wish that Jordan wasn't quite so angsty but here's hoping that we don't get too much of his broodiness.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 Episodes 20

I am constantly in awe of how stunning this show is but as time goes on I kinda get so used to the beauty of the animation so I tune it out until bam it hits me all over again! I also think it's interesting how obvious it is that the same animator for Demon Slayer is the main animator in this show cause he just has a unique way of animating attacks and it's fun to watch. I was really into the second half of the Itadori and Aoi fight against the special grade curse spirit and not only was it super fun to see them seriously outplay the spirit, I also really liked Aoi's swapping power too. Everyone but Itadori honestly has the coolest powers but I suppose if I had to pick one for Itadori it would be something like brute strength and endurance since as we saw Itadori could pull off 4 Black Flash attacks without breaking a sweat or with any practice and that's supposed to be the record! I also want to shout the fact that Gojou really is a god in this world cause he can literally do anything and I wonder if he's only not in charge just cause he doesn't want the pressure. In less than 30 minutes he was able to break the veil and in less than one second defeat one of the cursed spirits. I also do wonder if that guy that the girls ran into is the human that's helping the cursed spirits and whether he'll be important. 

Wandavision Season 1 Episode 8

This week was seriously epic cause we got a little backstory on Agnes and a little backstory on Wanda and I'm left wondering where we'll go from here. As it turned out Agnes wasn't actually behind the hex as I thought last week and I kinda love that she's more chaotic neutral than true evil despite her saying that Wanda is the one with chaos magic. After Wanda cast the hex, the amount of pure magic she used attracted Agnes who came to not only see what this source was but also how she did it. I wonder if she'll end up being some sort of mentor for Wanda in the future cause it's clear that while Agnes is more well versed in witchcraft, Wanda mostly just does things on pure willpower and has no idea about the mechanics. We also followed Wanda through her past from when she was a child to when she awakened her powers at HYDRA to right after Vision died. We also saw her go to SWORD and say goodbye to Vision and the important thing to note here is that Haywood though he seemed like a good guy at this point must already have been doing sketchy things cause as we see at the end, SWORD wasn't dismantling Vision for the greater good but actually trying to rebuild him as a SWORD weapon and I'm really interested in the fact that the footage that he showed the others was clearly not the whole story cause Wanda didn't break in and steal Vision. She was invited in and she left quietly. With the finale airing next week, I wonder who if somehow Dr Strange will appear cause Agnes can't be the only person in this world who felt the magic Wanda released right? Will SWORD Vision have all his old memories? Are Tommy and Billy even alive or will they vanish like Vision once the hex is lifted?

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive right in shall we?

Horimiya Season 1 Episode 6

The best thing about this show is the way it so obviously subverts all rom com expectations! Like this week the whole school found out that Hori and Miyamura were dating and were horrified about why Hori would date a loser like Miyamura so Miyamura cut his hair and suddenly everyone was in love with him. Part of me in heartbroken cause I thought he looked the best with his hair up but the rest of me adores how little Hori cared about what people thought and was only upset cause girls started to hit on Miyamura now. This takes me to the subversion that I mentioned up top! A new girl was introduced and just when you thought that she would be there to flirt with Miyamura and tell Hori to get lost, it turns out that she actually had a girl crush on Hori but I think she'll end up seeing Miyamura as her older brother and if that's not the cutest I don't know what is! I also love how natural Miyamura and Hori act around each other and I squealed when he kissed her and stole the candy out of her mouth like damn Miyamura you've got moves!

Riverdale Season 5 Episode 5

This episode was fairly interesting as we finally got the answers I was looking for over what would cause our heroes to remain in Riverdale despite having other obligations. Hiram ends up closing down Riverdale High despite all our heroes deciding to become teachers there to protect the students or at least until Riverdale High can hire permanent teachers. This is a little unfortunate cause I actually liked the idea of Cheryl buying the school and making it a private one but I'm not sure where the show will take it from here. I also don't love that Hiram turned down Veronica when she came to him for help cause seriously of all the horrible things they've done to each other, they still love one another and I can't believe that he would be like yo my daughter is in an abusive marriage oh well. Jughead ended up finding inspiration for his new book in Riverdale as well as I expected him to but rather than writing some sort of murder mystery, apparently he's going to be writing a book based on Pop Tate which will give him the perfect excuse to flirt with Pop Tate's granddaughter. Meanwhile Betty and Archie are hooking up now and I'm really confused about this cause isn't Betty dating her FBI mentor? Why are these two so cool with cheating constantly? I guess I should shout out the fact that their scene was definitely hotter than any sex scene that Archie and Veronica have had and maybe even Betty and Jughead though those two were less about the physical and more of the mental/emotional romance. We do find out that they haven't spoken to each other since Jughead's book release 2 years ago and I'm really hoping the plan for this show is to bring them back together slowly whether that's this season or not!

The promo for next week doesn't really seem to show us anything that we didn't already know. Betty and Archie are struggling to find somewhere to hook up (blech) and Jughead learns about something called the Mothman which is maybe the villain of the season?

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 Episodes 19

What's funny about this week is how Itadori and Toudou have basically become best friends and brothers in the short time we've spent away from them and I can't help but imagine Toudou mostly just strong-armed Itadori into it. Either way I'm content cause in that time away Toudou helped train Itadori enough that he can now visualize his curse energy better and can use something called Black Flash which apparently allows you to better control your energy. It led to a super badass fight in which Itadori and Toudou held their own against the special grade Cursed Spirit. This was also interesting cause poor Megumi and company really struggled to hold it back to the degree that Toge was super hurt from using his power so much. It seems like his power is super OP but the downside is that it drains him too quickly. I also didn't really his powers are dependent on how much stronger he is than the curse spirit which really feels unfair though I guess it keeps him from winning all the time and without any problems.

Wandavision Season 1 Episode 7

I'm cackling cause the end of this week's episode was honestly nothing like I expected it to be! I mean yeah everyone and their mother knew that Agnes had to be Agatha Harkness aka the villain behind this whole reality warping thing but the way the show revealed it in a sort of Scooby-Doo style was everything. We didn't really get an explanation as to why she did all this or what she hopes to gain but I'm sure that'll be a problem for next week. What we do know is that she was behind bringing Evan Peters into this show as Pietro and that she has a Darkhold which really is sad cause it reminds me of Agents of SHIELD and how if this world really is supposed to be connected then she must have grabbed it from hell cause that's where Robbie Reyes tossed it in season 4. I still really hope that the show gives us a good explanation about why she chose Evan Peters and not Aaron Taylor Johnson and that it's not chalked up to meta humor or stunt casting that would suck but I'm really excited to watch the last two episodes and focus on the hero/villain stuff again. Darcy did bring Vision up to speed on what happened out in the real world and Monica managed to get into Westview cause of her new powers which I think makes her Photon now!

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Horimiya Season 1 Episode 5

My goodness this show is prime rom com isn't it?? I think it has to do with the fact that this anime is only going to get one season so they're probs trying to fit volumes and volumes of manga into 12 episodes which is why things are moving so fast. Last week I mentioned that I was curious as to whether Miyamura told Hori that he loved her cause she was awake and whether she would act on it or pretend she was asleep and this week we got the answers. Miyamura knew that Hori was awake which is why he confessed and while Hori was a little awkward about it, in the end she decided that he was her boyfriend now which is an indirect confession. I also liked that it ended up being her dad that sort of was the catalyst for her acceptance but I'm still kinda curious what his role in the family is. Is he kinda a drifter who comes and goes or are her parents divorced cause we've never seen or heard of him before. It was also sweet of Miyamura to call Toru and tell him that they were dating and that Toru was mature about it by telling Miyamura to chill over his guilt cause even though he felt kinda shitty over it, at the end of the day, Toru was too good a person to linger. Maybe he should get to know Sakura more!

Riverdale Season 5 Episode 4

I don't even know where to start this review of this week's Riverdale episode cause I don't even know what I'm watching anymore! I mentioned last week that I thought this would end up being a soft reboot for Riverdale and that's exactly what we got. The show feels different and more mature and yet partially the same which I'm sort of down for that cause it's definitely more exciting than the same old same old. We spent chunks of the episode getting to know each of our main four characters and where they are in their lives now before bringing them back to the cesspool that is Riverdale. Archie became a Sergeant in the army but was sent back to Riverdale to revive the ROOTC program and he's really the only one without problems. Betty joined the FBI after Yale I'm assuming but she's still a trainee and is dating what seems to be her mentor or maybe boss. A little while ago she was hunting a serial killer and went off on her own without backup and ended up being captured and held for two weeks so she's struggling with a shit ton of PTSD. Jughead graduated and published a pretty popular book two years ago but he's been struggling to write another since. He's become a bit of a ladies man which is hilarious to me but he's also in debt somehow? Veronica meanwhile was a shark on Wall Street but then got married and now she's starting to see that she basically married another Hiram with how controlling he is. Cheryl's become a recluse while Toni is the head of the Serpents and guidance counselor at Riverdale High alongside Kevin who's the drama teacher. Fangs and Sweet Pea are driving trucks while Reggie is Hiram's right hand man while they try to strip Riverdale dry in order to force people to live in Hiram's SoDale project. So far our heroes have all congregated in Riverdale in order to celebrate Pop's retirement but Jughead's narration made me think that maybe a murder will keep them all in town. I wonder if Betty's runaway serial killer will the one we're hunting?

The promo for next week doesn't show much other than it looks like Archie and company will be taking his house back from the Ghoulies. I guess this means the others are on board with Archie's plan to save Riverdale? Idk other than Archie and Jughead who can write pretty much anywhere, it does feel like the girls have things to do and places to be so I wonder what will cause them to stay.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 Episodes 18

I really enjoyed this week's episode and it probs has a lot to do with the fact that our villains have infiltrated this competition so instead of watching two schools fight one another and angst over their similar struggles we get to watch them team up and take down demons! I still do miss Itadori which is totally funny to me cause I've never cared about a shounen protag so much before. Usually I'm so much more into the ensemble but I wonder if it's cause Itadori is smarter and less maniac or naive then most protags so I can connect with him more. The veil that was dropped was only meant to keep Gajou out but the Cursed Master who cast it didn't seem to know that which makes me wonder if the villains lied to him cause they know that Gajou is too strong or if they purposefully separated Gajou from the group in hopes that he can be defeated easier. It was hilarious though seeing the other Principal pull out an electric guitar but I guess that his Cursed power is going to be related to sound waves or something. 

Wandavision Season 1 Episode 6

This week straight up left me with chills and like slow clap to this show for pulling it off. I also want to shout out Elizabeth Olsen for playing Wanda just shy of insanity perfectly cause it constantly feels like you've gotta be careful around her cause one wrong move and she will kill you no questions asked. I still feel like there's someone pulling the strings behind the scenes just for Pietro alone especially since it seems as though he's not completely brainwashed like the others. It was just strange that he was asking Wanda questions like how did you do this and his constant commentary about what his role in this week's sitcom was and his jokes about Vision being dead confused me. Is he fully aware of everything but enthralled to think that Wanda is his sister? We do know now that Wanda is the one controlling Westview and that she can move the barrier but the question still remains if she was the one to start it all. I'm also really confused about the twins and whether they can exist outside this barrier since the stuff that SWORD pulled out was okay but Vision started to die again so maybe her reality bending powers only work on inanimate objects? It's also important to note that Monica, Jimmy, and Darcy no longer trust Haywood and they discovered that he's definitely after Vision cause of the Vibranium but now that Darcy has been sucked in, I think that Vision will wake her up and they can exchange notes.

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

 Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive right in shall we?

Horimiya Season 1 Episode 4

We're all shooketh over Miyamura confessing his love for Hori this week and the biggest question is whether he thought she was asleep or not! Cause I mean it's important to know if he means love love or love like I adore you and you're my best friend but given this is a rom com, I'm sure it's the former so I'm more curious about why he confessed at that specific timing. Of course I wanna give props to him for not only realizing how he felt but also accepting it so early in the season given that Hori was a little horrified by the confession and was like if I pretend not to hear it we can remain as we are though I wonder if it was in return for Hori telling him she doesn't want him to leave her. I do have to say it was a bit ironic that immediately after he told her that he won't leave unless she asks him to he was like okay bye gotta go to school now. I guess he meant more metaphorically. I also liked a lot of the student council shenanigans we got this week with a possible new love interest for Toru which is nice cause he's a good guy and deserves to meet a nice girl who would like him and I liked seeing one of Miyamura's middle school friends.

Riverdale Season 5 Episode 3

This episode really felt like a series finale more than what should have been a season finale and I was really just left curious as to where the show will take us now. Graduation happened and everyone but Archie got their diplomas. Archie ended up enlisting in the army but unlike the Naval Academy, he's be going in as a foot soldier rather than an officer. Veronica left to stay with her mom in the Hamptons while Betty and Alice went on a road trip that would end in Yale. Cheryl and Toni broke up but Cheryl decided not to go to college and remained back home hoping to fix the Blossom name while her mom turned herself in. FP and Jellybean went back to Ohio and Jughead the dramatic idiot rather than staying with them or in the Cooper house decided to go back to squatting. This whole episode felt like a soft reset honestly with a return to what was the status quo when this show first started and the one thing I didn't love was the fact that Jughead was the only one who bothered to return one year later like they all promised which did break my heart a little. Though Betty and Jughead didn't break up on screen, I'm assuming they broke up soon after going to college cause otherwise why would he say that it would be six years until they saw each other again. I do have to say 6 years is a random time jump cause I was expecting either 4 or 5. I'm really curious to see if the characters really will feel different than they were cause though Jughead said they were, I will believe it when I see it.

Okay so the promo just like high key spoiled us as to where our core four ended up! Archie was obviously at war, Betty is a FBI agent, Jughead is a published writer, and Veronica is married which is honestly the funniest cause not only did she marry some random dude (as in not a named Archie Comics character) but he's like so average looking in a cast of some of the most attractive people I've seen!

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 Episodes 17

This week's episode was actually really good as well and I'm starting to warm up to the ensemble characters this show is giving though I think my problem is still that we're too early in this show's run to be having a tournament arc. Everything I liked in the first half of the show had to do with catching spirits and battling them so I'm really very uninterested in the internal politics of this world. Our Jujutsu Tech kids are clearly leagues stronger than those from the sister school cause the only times they've won is when they've cheated like in the case of Kugisaki who had her battle in the bag and lost only cause she was shot at by another student outside which really shouldn't actually be considered cheating but based in the context of a one on one battle perhaps. I also liked the look at the twins and how Maki is much stronger than Mai but the family doesn't see it cause she doesn't have the ability to see curses and that Mai never wanted to be a sorcerer in the first place and was only forced into it cause Maki decided she wanted to be one and the family couldn't let Mai be left behind when she was the heir they chose.

Wandavision Season 1 Episode 5

This episode was absolutely insane and the perfect mix of the sitcom world with the real world which means it took what I loved from last week and added to it! This week we were in the 80s and though there were still sitcom shenanigans with Wanda and the twins who apparently can age themselves at will but the main story I was interested in was Vision starting to realize that things aren't right. After this week I'm of the mind that maybe Wanda isn't the bad guy after all and I'm doubling down on my original theory that Agnes is the one behind all this but that Wanda slowly realized what was happening and now this is all she wants. The reason for this is how adamant Wanda was that she didn't start all this and the fact that she had that conversation about Pietro in front of Agnes in which she talked about how you can't being someone back from the dead and then low and behold there's Evan freaking Peters having been recast as Marvel's Pietro. Part of me feels really sorry for the original actor who I actually really liked in Age Of Ultron but clearly no one else did and the rest of me wonders if this recasting will be permanent or if this is another scenario in which a random person is forced to act as a specific character. I also think it's important that Norm said that "she" did this and not "your wife" or "Wanda." I also want to mention that last week the popular theory was that Hayward was a bad guy and I was sitting here like that's a bit of a jump but after this week I'm definitely on board that train. He hid the fact that Wanda snuck into SWORD to take Vision's body from Monica and his whole shoot first ask questions later mentality was really such a villainous move. Does he want to kill Wanda before she can expose him? What if it was Agnes who disguised herself as Wanda to steal Vision's body??

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive right in shall we?

FINISHED KonoSuba: God's Blessing on this Wonderful World! Season 1 & 2

I've been meaning to watch this show for a while cause I'm a fairly big fan of isekai dramas and this one has always been recommended as a must watch. I finally got around to it this week and dudes I can totally and completely see why it was hyped so much. I loved that it was a slice-of-life show that was meant to be a fantasy. We are told that Kazuma has to go to this world and defeat the Demon King but in 2 seasons we barely see our heroes defeat one general in the Demon King's army and then make friends with 2 more. The focus of the show is actually on completing low level quests and reminded me a lot of the early arcs in Fairy Tail where the focus was on a guild and the challenges they had to compete. I adored all our main characters and how they didn't stick to the typical harem prototypes and that there was barely a harem at all since neither Kazuma or the girls liked each other romantically though I could see a possible Aqua loveline in the future. Everyone in this show was a terrible person but they weren't afraid to hide their flaws and that's what made them so fun to watch! The comedy, writing, acting, and animation were all top notch!

Horimiya Season 1 Episode 3

We saw a little more of Miyamura's backstory this week and I was actually really surprised that the show is telling me that he struggled his whole life to make friends cause I really would have thought that he was just a natural loner rather than awkward. He didn't seem to struggle to get to know Hori but it's possible that Hori's just too kind on her own and so she made him more comfortable especially if Sota was around. I'm also really interested in how Miyamura and Hori are in love but I can't tell if they know that they love each other and hiding it cause they think the other doesn't love them or if they're in the denial phase and think that they're just friends. The others have clearly clocked them though and I'm actually really glad that Hori's friend isn't into Miyamura too cause we don't need that many love shapes! It's also really sweet how Toru clearly sees Miyamura as a rival but at the same time can separate those feelings from the fact that he likes Miyamura as a friend too. This show really does feel so nostalgic even if I've never actually read the manga but something about the vibe reminds me of so many other rom com animes that I've adored.

Riverdale Season 5 Episode 2

So Charles was exposed as a serial killer in the strangest twist that meant nothing this week and I can't help but feel like the show dragged out his suspiciousness for too long. Like remember when we saw him bugging the house and visiting Chic and then suddenly he was the one behind every mystery? Well jump ahead like 2 years and no one cares anymore! In other news did I or did I not call it last week when I said it was definitely Jellybean who was filming these weird videos?? After all Jellybean's been around for a while but she never really played a bigger role than floating around in the background though part of me wonders though if this had always been the intended course or if the Riverdale writers did a quick rewrite in order to give FP a good reason to leave Riverdale. It would definitely make sense now for FP to take Jellybean to some other city that isn't "full of darkness" like Riverdale is (which makes me laugh just writing that but that's what our characters believe of their town so...) and it would definitely be a better reason than Hermione's which is apparently that she wants to divorce Hiram and become a reality star. I think next week will end up being the graduation episode and that will officially be where the end of season 4 was meant to be so episode 4 will end up taking place after the time skip. I'm also fairly certain that Jughead will find out about Betty and Archie next week cause I can't imagine the time skip happening without him finding out. I still think it would be Hiram to drop that little nugget and I'm curious as to whether Betty and Veronica didn't spend any time together this week was cause we're saving the angst. I mean there's no way that Veronica isn't pissed at Betty too right?? 

Ah I was right in guessing that next week would be the graduation episode but based on the tone in the promo I wonder if Betty and Jughead will end up breaking up just cause they don't wanna do long distance rather than due to Betty cheating?

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 Episodes 16

This week was almost entirely devoted to Panda's fight with Mechamaru and we did learn a bit more about Panda. Honestly I'm not sure what I expected Panda to be. Did I think he was human who was in a costume or a panda who gained power like the Principal in My Hero Academia? Either way I probs would have been wrong cause he's apparently something like a cursed corpse but not really. The principal of our school experimented on him and I'm assuming his two siblings and created Panda who's basically unkillable and has the ability to switch between 3 cores who each have different jujutsu powers and strength. Mechamaru on the other hand suffers from having a body that can't go into the light at all including moonlight but because of this he has an extremely strong jujutsu power that allows him to remotely control a cursed corpse. The two fought and in the end I'm pretty sure they made friends cause Panda reminded him that though he's got it bad, so do a lot of people and he shouldn't allow his circumstances to prevent him from living life. Meanwhile Itadori learned a bit more about how not to delay his punches with curse power and I'll be curious to know if this helps cause to me I thought his delayed punch was cool but I guess we're supposed to think that it's weak and not all that effective against strong opponents?

Wandavision Season 1 Episode 4

Ooh so this was definitely my favorite episode of the season so far cause not only was a it more fun to finally see what's going on outside but I also have to say that the whole sitcom shenanigans wasn't my cup of tea. I do think some of the complaints over this show are a little obnoxious cause this show isn't like Inhumans level of terrible but I can see why so many people were disappointed that this was the first Marvel Disney+ outing. Having said all that it was really nice to see the range of characters this show ended up pulling from Monica who last appeared in Captain Marvel as a child to Jimmy Woo who was in Antman & The Wasp to Darcy Lewis who I'm pretty sure was last seen in Thor: The Dark World. Apparently what's going on is that Jimmy contacted SWORD due to a missing Witsec person so SWORD sent Monica who ended up being sucked into this time/space warping reality bubble. They then called in all sorts of government response teams but it was Darcy who was able to crack the case. We also learned that it is Wanda herself who's doing all this because she is unable and unwilling to mourn Vision in a healthy way which is interesting cause that means that she's been purposefully acting out sitcom scenarios rather than being brainwashed. I wonder if the other residents in Westview are acting similarly and if Monica was deep undercover like Darcy and Jimmy theorized or if the other residents (and Monica) were under Wanda's powers similar to how people outside of Westview forgot that it even existed.

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Horimiya Season 1 Episode 2

So I don't know if this came through in my review last week or if I didn't say anything cause I wanted to seem classier or whatever but I'm seriously so in love with Miyamura. Something about his character and design feels like it hits every trope I enjoy and though it might be too soon, I can't help but see him as a future favorite husbando of mine! Ironically though I said all that, this week was all about Hori and I liked it just as much cause I know a lot of people complained that though they fell for Miyamura, they were kinda meh about Hori. Personally I didn't have that problem and I liked that she was so full of personality rather than the quiet shy blank self-insert character that a lot of rom coms have in order for the audience to put themselves in the female lead's shoes. It was so funny that she spent so much of this week trying to find out Miyamura's first name but also I adored the way Miyamura worried about her in return. He didn't understand why she was acting so weird but I also loved how quickly he stepped in to support her in the face of the student council president blaming something on her. I kind of love that the two are so into each other but they don't actually know it yet so there's no real jealousy though there is an undercurrent of sadness when they think of parting.

Riverdale Season 5 Episode 1

The fascinating thing about this season premiere is how Riverdale really just jumped right back to where we were last so this episode felt less like a premiere that shook things up and more like returning in the middle of a season break! Now there's nothing wrong with that other than the fact that we as seasoned tv watchers are used to starting a new season with a new year so the fact that we're returning to 2 weeks before graduation is interesting. This week was the prom episode and a return to the terrible video mystery that I had totally forgotten about cause it was so much lamer than the Stonewall Prep mystery we got. I still don't know who the person will end up being but as the mystery goes on, I wonder more and more about Jellybean and whether she could be the one behind it cause it can't exactly be a coincidence that she showed up at the rave. Either way I'm hoping that the mystery will be wrapped up in the next episode or two so we can clear the slate cause as we all know that there will be a time jump in this season which I'm assuming means that we'll be skipping from high school graduation to college graduation. That's probs the big reason why it looks like all our main couples are breaking up (or will break up) this week. Archie told Veronica that he kissed Betty so they broke up and I'm sure that Betty and Jughead will be following soon especially since Hiram is on a vigilante kick and overheard Veronica crying to her mom about it. I do want to say that I'm glad that even if Lili and Cole broke up offscreen that their breakup didn't cause any problems onscreen (unlike when Nina and Iain broke up on Vampire Diaries and you could see how much the two actors hated acting side-by-side) cause the two still had tons of chemistry. Meanwhile it also looks like all the complaints Vanessa lodged this summer over Riverdale never giving her story is turning into a Romeo and Juliet story for Toni and Cheryl and really I just wish I cared about them more as a couple.

The promo for next week looks like we'll be focusing in on Archie and his anger and probs his PTSD from everything he's been through in the past 5 seasons! It always makes me laugh cause this show went from him being like gee golly dad I want to play music instead of football to yeah I've been to juvie and wrestled a bear and own a gym now.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 Episodes 15

So the competition officially began this week and right away Itadori was separated from the others though I'm not sure if him volunteering to stay back to fight Todou meant that the other school succeeded or not especially since it looks like Todou doesn't care to follow what the others want. It was honestly hilarious seeing him decide that Itadori was going to be his best friend just cause they have similar taste in women though it's questionable how much Itadori cares since he seemed mostly confused and irritated by Todou. Itadori really seems like he's a whole other mental league than the others just cause he went through that trauma with his friend but I think that's really just chalked up to the fact that we've spent so little time on the ensemble since there's no way that 2 and 3rd years aren't serious about being a Jujutsu sorcerer either. It was also nice to see some worldbuilding in terms of where these kids will end up and it was interesting to note that like My Hero Academia, a sorcerer needs to basically be sponsored by/intern with other higher sorcerers and they can't be the person who trained them. I'm sure that eventually Itadori will end up with Nanami since he can't join Gojou.

Wandavision Season 1 Episode 3

I'm starting to wonder whether rather than Wanda being trapped in some sort of reality warping bubble if maybe she's not the one doing all this herself instead cause it really does feel like she has waaay too much control over things around her. When Vision started to question what was going on, she rewound time like last week and returned to what they were talking about before and when Monica started to remember that Pietro was killed by Ultron, it seems as though Wanda forcefully pushed Monica out. As we saw, something warped and opened and Monica fell out. It also doesn't help that the others almost told Vision that they were all something and I wonder if that something is mind controlled. Perhaps while Wanda was giving birth and her focus was elsewhere if the spell that's controlling all these people lifted enough for them to remember that they're SWORD agents and not living in some sitcom. I'm also left wondering this week about how Vision is even here cause last week I sort of just assumed that he was another figment of Wanda's imagination but he's starting to discover things on his own and that makes me think that something else is afoot.

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive right in shall we?

Horimiya Season 1 Episode 1

I wasn't planning on reviewing this anime weekly if I'm being honest cause I tend to find that I have more to comment on in shounens or mystery anime but I seriously watched this first episode and fell head over heels. Like for weeks I've been hearing nothing but excitement for this anime to start airing cause it was a favorite rom com manga of so many people which worried me cause it gave me high expectations going in but fortunately this show met them all! I am seriously in love with Miya in ways I cannot describe. I don't think I've been so into a husbando since maybe Usui from Kaichou wa Maid Sama! Like I fall in love with plenty of male leads but most of the time I'm just like yeah he's best boy or yeah I ship it but for the first time in a while I was like googly eyed starting at the screen. I absolutely adore how cute this show is already and how our leads are starting out as friends instead of enemies like most rom coms out there. Miya isn't the shy otaku I thought he was going to be and I love that his punk personality kind of makes him seem more ditsy than edgy. Hori is sweet and I love how much she loves her brother and taking care of their family over having fun with her friends. Their dynamic is everything and I'll be really curious to see the journey this show takes them on and whether it'll get exhausting watching their will they won't they like in Toradora or if it'll be cute every single time like in Kaichou wa Maid Sama!

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 Episodes 14

Now that I'm finally caught up with this show, it's going to be interesting to see whether I will feel any differently about it. A lot of shounen are meant to be binged and watching weekly sucks the fun out. So far though I don't think I've noticed a problem other than the fact that I wanted more! This week felt a bit more like a setup for future episodes more than anything else but I didn't mind that cause we always need something to link one hype event to another. I do have to say that Itadori popping out of a box like surprise was really the dumbest thing I've experienced in a while but it was slightly worth it to see Kugisaki and Fushiguro's completely deadpan faces while Itadori and Gojo tried to hype things up. It looks like we'll be spending the next chunk of episodes in a competition between Tokyo and Kyoto though I do want to mention that this week really highlighted a problem I have with this show. Unlike most shounens, this show's ensemble isn't very fun to watch. I don't know if this is due to how we literally spent two seconds with the ensemble before isolating Itadori or if it's cause so far all the supporting characters are boring but I hope this changes soon enough since I'm sure that the show will want me to care about the others at some point. I also don't love that every single student from Kyoto seems villainous since we already have enough demons to fight but at the same time I guess I can understand why they're all like that when their principal is such a horrible monster too.

Wandavision Season 1 Episode 1 & 2

Honestly guys of all the Disney+ Marvel shows that had been slated to come out, I really wasn't all that interested in this show from the start. I have never really cared about Wanda or Vision or their relationship in the MCU but at this point if I'm in for a penny then I might as well be in for a pound! I mean I can't not watch every single Marvel thing that comes out right?? So here I am after having watched the first two episodes of this show and it's pretty much what I expected it to be. The basic premise of this show is that Wanda is somehow stuck in this sitcom world and that we'll be watching her jumps from sitcom to sitcom while SWORD tries to get her out. It's up in the air right now as to whether Wanda created this reality on her own to cope with the loss of Vision or if someone put her here for some larger goal or if it's a mix of the two. Maybe she created this reality without meaning any harm only for some villain to hijack the whole thing? I know the popular theories are that this show is meant to be the MCU version of House Of M after which mutants are brought into this world or that Agnes is Agatha Harkness aka a villain from the comics who works with Mephisto but I'm not entirely sure which one feels more likely as of yet. I just hope that we don't spend too long immersed in this sitcom reality and that we see more and more hints of Wanda realizing that something isn't right cause I'm more interested in why she's here and what SWORD is doing!
