What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive right in shall we?

Stargirl Season 2 Episode 9

So the big secret that Barbara and Pat were keeping from Courtney is the fact that the JSA stopped Eclipso back in the day by killing the host and I'm sitting here like okay so it was as dumb of a secret as I expected it to be which is why I need Courtney to build a bridge and get over it. I mean what was she going to do if she knew this at the start of the season? Eclipso didn't have a host back then and I actually still don't know if he has one now (or is it Cindy?) so that advice is useless not to mention the fact that I don't see her stepping up to murder someone after she saw how killing Brainwave affected Yolanda. On the plus side we did see that Shade is somewhat okay though confused and I wanna shout out the fact that on this Earth Jay Garrick is also played by John Wesley Shipp cause it makes my heart smile whenever I see him play another Flash! Poor Mike was also tormented by Cameron and the fact that despite what he's said I think a part of him does feel guilty about accidentally killing Jordan though I also think this was definitely a preview for what's to come cause there's no way that Cameron lets his father's death go.

FINISHED What If Season 1 Episode 9

With this final episode What If has come to an end. I don't think anything could beat the horror that I felt watching Ultron rule the world last week but I had a fun time watching how our team of Avengers beat him. It ended up being all of the heroes we met over the past 7 episodes and a Gamora from a world we actually didn't experience. Zola did end up being the lynchpin to save the day though it was also heavily in part due to Dr Strange who caught Killmonger and Zola in a pocket dimension fighting to capture the Infinity Stones. I'm still left a little discombobulated in terms of the overall story cause we never really got answers as to who the Watcher was or why he couldn't interfere but I guess we're not meant to cause this was just supposed to be a quick pop into this world. Maybe next season we'll see him being punished for interfering?

Titans Season 3 Episode 11

As penultimate episodes go this really wasn't a great one. I don't know why in the world this show is so adamant on separating the Titans all the time. If the showrunners/writers wanted to write a show for Nightwing that's what they should have done rather than pretend like they wanted to write an ensemble show about a team of heroes. Like don't get me wrong the Batfamily is for sure my favorite part of DC but I also have a soft spot for the Titans and Young Justice and the Justice League so I wanted a show like that! We never actually see the team be a team and I'm exhausted by it. Starfire found out that she never actually had fire powers and that they were stolen from Blackfire as a child so Tamaran didn't fall into a civil war. I wonder if this means that we'll get more comic accurate starbolts now? Dick was a dick and took out Connor and Krypto using Kryptonite in order to fight Jason but was shot by a civilian instead. Jason is still all over the place in terms of writing but I think him seeing Crane having lost his mind will probs have been the last straw. It also appears like Dick will be going into the Lazarus Pit that Gar and Rachel found given that he is practically dead at the end. I'm still kinda wondering where Bruce is after Donna found him trying to kill himself. She meanwhile has teamed up with Tim as they arm more civilians to fight the cops on Crane's payroll.

FINISHED Leverage: Redemption Season 1B

Back in July when I originally watched the first half of this Leverage revival I think I knew that it was actually only going to be part 1 of 2 for this season but somewhere along the way I totally forgot that there was a second part coming so when I realized this week that it was airing, I cannot describe to you how excited I was! I absolutely adore this show and I was ready to jump back into the world it built. 1B was just as good as 1A which like I said in my previous review was just as good as the original Leverage. The Jackal Job actually made me cry and I always live for cases like the Hurricane Job and the Golf Job which separates some parts of the team from the rest so we can see them shine in new ways. I also had a soft spot for the Train Job cause like Parker and Sophie I adore trains and the romanticism of them and movies like Murder On The Orient Express! Mr Wilson was still working for me as the new Nate and though I still prefer Hardison over Breanna, I was used to her presence in this back half so she didn't bother me as much either. Having said all that I do have to say that the overarching season villain of RIZ did feel a bit like a James Bond type of villain trying to come up with this absurdly complicated take-over-the-world plan but I did like that they connected back to Mr Wilson who started off this whole Redemption arc at the top of the season through Ethan and I had fun watching the Leverage team take them down anyway. I really really really do hope that this show gets a season 2 and we get this same cast back again but if this was just a one and done type of revival I would be happy enough too given that I never thought that I would get a chance to see more of this world in the first place!!

What Shows Did I Watch This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive right in shall we?

Stargirl Season 2 Episode 8

Darkness is the name of the game and I really really really feel bad for poor Rick who started the episode thinking about colleges and now might be going to jail for assault! Like I don't know why exactly I thought that Eclipso would only target Beth and not both at the same time other than maybe a meta reason thinking that it would be better to spread out the mayhem over 3 episodes rather than 2 but he's for sure getting exactly what he wants. With Yolanda quitting and now Rick destroying the Hourglass, it's just Beth and Courtney now. I did like that Beth dug deep and found her courage rather than succumbing to her fears like Yolanda and Rick did though all the race commentary was a little heavy-handed of the show given how little it clearly wants to actually touch on race. In the end though her goggles might be the only thing able to see through Eclipso's visions making her a trump card. I'm also still waiting for the Green Lantern to come back! It does look like Mike and Barbara might be next on Eclipso's list though which kinda sucks.

What If Season 1 Episode 8

Good god guys this episode should have been named Anxiety for all that it made my heart palpitate the whole time! Ultron was so so so much scarier in this show than he ever was in the Age Of Ultron movie and I spent the whole time biting my nails worried out of my mind over Ultron's power even though I knew well and clear that I should be hyped cause his taking over the universe and the multiverse meant that we would see all the What If heroes we followed for the last 7 episodes come together to fight in a new Avengers lineup! Talk about good storytelling! The fact that he could see the Watcher was one thing cause so could Dr Strange but jumping into the Watcher's world was a whole other! I also can't help but wonder if the fact that he so easily defeated big dogs like Captain Marvel and Thanos and even the Watcher himself makes it a little unbelievable that Party Thor and Captain Carter can but then again we already have a built in way to win with Natasha and Zola next week!

Titans Season 3 Episode 10

Color me not at all surprised to find out that this show is making Jason turn bad all over again. If it couldn't have shit on him any more then here we are. After tricking the Titans into poisoning Gotham's water supply, Crane convinced the city it was the Titans who did it and made them fugitives. He also paid off the cops to kill them and I'm left here like maybe they should just wash their hands of Gotham's hot as mess. We end the episode with all of the Titans split up. Dick and Connor are together as are Starfire and Blackfire who speaking of ended up switching powers with one another somehow though I wouldn't be surprised if this show ends with both of them having half of Starfire's powers. Also important is that Donna is in Gotham now as is Raven who found Gar and I guess that is the most exciting thing about this show to see them all come together again. I do wonder what is up with everyone constantly talking about being more than a soldier cause not only did Blackfire give that talk to Starfire but Donna got one too. I know in some incarnations Starfire runs the Titans while Dick's off doing his Batfamily thing but if that's where this show wants to go then why Donna?

Top 9 Movies Of 2020

Hello all my lovelies! What an absolute crazy year this has been! I hope you've all been safe and healthy and well and that you had a great holiday season no matter how different it may have been this year. It's that time of year again where I list my favorite movies, tv shows, and asian dramas of the year! I've been doing these for about seven years now so you should know the drill but if you don't, I'm going to be listing my Top 10 Movies of 2020 from 10 to 1 with number 1 being my favorite movie of the year! If you're interested, I also have Top 10 Movies of 2013Top 10 Movies of 2014Top 10 Movies of 2015Top 10 Movies of 2016, and Top 10 Movies of 2017Top 10 Movies Of 2018 and Top 10 Movies Of 2019 as well as my Favorite YouTube Videos and My Movie OTPs & Ships lists! With this year be slightly different as it turns out, I wasn't able to watch 10 new movies this year so my list actually only has 9!

Onward

Coming in at number 9 is Onward! This Disney Pixar movie came out so long ago that honestly it feels like another year. It follows two brothers as they go on a quest in order to bring their father back to life and honestly it's everything a D&D/fantasy nerd would want. And I don't mean this in a subtle way cause the older brother is a diehard roleplaying fan so everything the brothers do has some mention with how it would be like in a D&D session which is hilarious. Of course being a Disney Pixar movie there is plenty of heart to this movie too and I absolutely cried buckets of tears at the end of this movie when the younger brother realized that he never had to search for his father cause his older brother had always been there for him.

Mulan

At number 8 is Mulan! I'm going to be honest here. I really didn't like this adaptation of Mulan and in a normal movie year maybe it wouldn't have even ended up on a Top 10 list but here we are. Look okay I'm not one of those people who automatically hate every live action Disney movie just cause it's an adaptation cause if you know me you know that I've adored Cinderella and Aladdin so much while Beauty And The Beast and Lion King were meh. I was actually really excited to check out Mulan at first cause it's actually my third favorite Disney movie (after Aladdin and Tangled) and I liked the idea of all the changes but after I watched the opening scene to this movie all that changed. In all honesty the whole movie felt like it was missing something. It was absolutely lovely to look at but the magic of the animated movie was gone. It felt like moments were just happening cause they did in the original. And seriously don't even get me started on the addition of chi to the whole thing. The main reason that we all fell in love with Mulan originally was because she wasn't special! She worked hard for everything she got and she did it all out of love for her father and wanting to protect him. This Mulan already had this special chi in her and it felt like the villain got more character development than her! The lack of music and Mushu weren't that terrible but I also wasn't a fan of rewriting Shang for some random guy.

#Alive

Coming in at number 7 is #Alive! Maybe this is cheating cause technically this is a Korean movie and I already have a separate Top 10 asian dramas list (keep an eye out for that coming soon) but seriously guys I watched so few movies this year that I decided that this one should count given that it's a movie and not a drama! I'm not usually the biggest fan of zombie movies but this one was led by two Korean actors I adore and I wondered if it could live up to my enjoyment of Train To Busan which had a similar premise about a zombie outbreak. I did think this movie was super creative cause it took the idea of a zombie outbreak and added in what it would be like to be too scared to leave your house and the struggle to survive with what you had. I really liked the way the leads bonded and that there was no romance cause seriously there was no time for that!

Soul

At number 6 is Soul! This movie follows the a middle school music teacher who has always wanted to do nothing more than play music only to die right after getting his big shot. He then ends up meeting a new soul in the Great Beyond and due to a set of circumstances ends back on Earth only his soul is in a cat and the new soul is in his body. The highlight of this movie is definitely the way it acts as a love letter to jazz music and it warms my soul every time Joe gets into how music moves him. I do kind of wish that the plot of the movie wasn't so focused on the whole afterlife thing cause it reminds me a little of Inside Out and this movie wanting to be that one but I did love the lessons Joe and 22 learned throughout the movie about what makes life worth living and how not to take your life for granted which is a wonderful message.

A Whisker Away

Coming in at number 5 is A Whisker Away! This movie is actually a Netflix anime movie that I watched and I absolutely adored. I am always super down for cute rom com anime films but I tend to find that I disconnect with most anime films. Like they're all so beautifully animated but most of them like to do the Nolan thing and make you think about philosophical questions and wonder if what you're watching is even real rather than giving us a good plot to sink our teeth into which is why when I started this show and found a fantastic story, I was all in! The story follows the girl of divorced parents who struggles with the changes in her life and ends up wishing that she were a cat. While she's a cat she falls in love with a boy who's kind to her and shenanigans ensue. The story is much more complex and heartwarming than it first sounds and I definitely cried at least once by the end!

To All The Boys I Loved Before: PS I Still Love You

At number 4 is To All The Boys I Loved Before: PS I Still Love You! So this movie is a sequel to To All The Boys I Love Before and I might be in the minority here but I really adored it. The major plot of this movie follows the fact that Lara Jean ends up feeling like Peter doesn't love her the way she does and so she ends up finding a friend in John Ambrose and a love triangle is formed. In the end she chooses Peter cause she loves him and this is where everyone who watched this movie fell off the wagon. Personally since I've read the books these movies were based on, I shipped Lara Jean and Peter so what actually ended up bothering me was the way this movie made Lara Jean so wishy-washy. Lara Jean kept leading John Ambrose on and treated Peter truly horrifically while in the books Lara Jean broke up with Peter for a good reason. Having said that I still enjoyed this movie a ton and of course I'm looking forward to the next one!

Birds Of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn)

Coming in at number 3 is Birds Of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn!) This movie is an absolute gem and I will truly never understand why it didn't hit it big in the box office. It's everything you could want from a Harley Quinn movie. It follows Harley after she breaks up with Joker and teams up with the Birds Of Prey in order to protect a girl who's being hunted by the Black Mask. It manages to balance humor and complete madness with a current of sadness and seriousness. Ewan McGregor is practically unrecognizable with how into this role he gets and Margot Robbie shines of course. I loved every single moment of this movie and I think it deserves more love than it gets.

Hamilton

At number 2 is Hamilton! Once again I'm not entirely sure if placing this on my list is cheating cause it's technically just a filmed broadcast of the Broadway musical but I think that the fact that this film originally was meant to be shown in theaters counts! Unless you've been living under a rock then you probably know about Hamilton and the way it swept through the world. Tickets were killer to get which is why when I found out that this movie was being released on Disney Plus I was thrilled. I actually had heard the soundtrack multiple times before but I was stunned to see how much the acting and staging of the show added to my pleasure. Of course the lyrics are so well written and the cast is extremely talented but I also think the stagehands and direction of the musical really added to the whole experience too. I've definitely rewatched this more than once!

Wonder Woman 1984

And finally my number 1 movie of 2020 is Wonder Woman 1984! I mean could this spot have gone to any other movie this year?? Wonder Woman 1984 has had a hell of a time releasing with how it's been pushed back so many times and was screwed back in the Summer when the pandemic forced it to be pulled from theaters. I know a lot of people including Patty Jenkins herself weren't happy with the movie coming out on HBO Max but I personally was thrilled cause I would get to see this movie earlier. Wonder Woman while I did like it didn't strike me as much as it did for others so unlike most people who ended up thinking this sequel wasn't as good, I found myself thinking that this movie hit me better. It had the opposite problem as the prequel in my opinion because while Wonder Woman was excellent for the first 2/3 of the movie, Wonder Woman 1984 was excellent for it's final 2/3 of the movie! I loved the way the movie played with Steve and Diana and for once I actually fell in love with them. I adored Cheetah and Max Lord as villains and Pedro Pascal really brought so much magic to this movie. The ending was perfect in my opinion too cause I am always proud when superhero movies like to have their final fight be different than a punching match so the fact that Wonder Woman who is all about love and justice and truth won the day by winning the hearts of the people was everything!

I'll see you all tomorrow for my Top 10 TV Shows of 2020!

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive in shall we?

The Irregular At Magic High School Season 2 Episode 11

It seems like a weird choice to start a new arc when we're 3 episodes from the season finale cause there's no possible way that this new arc can be fully experienced in that short amount of time! With the parasites being caught last week, it seems like not only did the visitor arc come to an end but also the school year and therefore Lina returned to the states while Shizuku came back to Japan. All of the third years we've met in the first season like Mayumi, Mari, and Katsuto graduated making me wonder if we'll see them much from now on cause it's not like they're actually part of our main circle of friends! With the start of Tatsuya and Miyuki's second year of high school, we see that Tatsuya, Mizuki, and Miki were all bumped up from Course 2 to Course 1 which makes sense though Erika and Leo are still in Course 1 which at first seems unfair but when you think about it, the courses are meant to rank students based on their magic ability and while Erika and Leo are competent and badass in the field, they fight using non-magic abilities most of the time. We also met a new character named Minami who's working for Maya though if I remember correctly, she was being mourned by Miyuki and Tatsuya making me wonder if she's supposed to be genetically engineered like Tatsuya.

FINISHED The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 8

Shit okay this season finale absolutely blew my mind and that's cause of one person: LUKE FREAKING SKYWALKER!!!! I was so so so so so curious if this show would ever have him show up cause on paper it would make so much sense to connect the two with how Grogu is looking for a Jedi master and how we know that in canon Luke wanted to rebuild the Jedi Order but in reality it would be harder cause Mark Hamill isn't young enough to play Luke right after the Return Of The Jedi. There was a lot of speculation over whether the show would just cast someone to play Luke and be like the magic of moviemaking to ignore it or if they would use their deaging program and in the end it was the second option which okay I know a lot of people will complain about but honestly to me it was better than both the other times we've seen young Leia (in Rogue One and Rise Of Skywalker) and at the end of the day it's more about the message we're getting than the effect! Luke was so badass coming in and destroying all the Death Troopers and even Moff Gideon realized he was out of luck! The final goodbye between Din and Grogu was so sweet and I loved that he even went as far as to take his helmet off to say goodbye. It really does look like Din's starting to learn to be more flexible. It also looks like we will be moving forward with the taking back of Mandalore storyline next season but like seriously the new rule about the Dark Saber only being owned by the person who fought for it is a little ridiculous cause if I remember in Star Wars Rebels, Sabine won it and then gave it to Bo Katan cause she didn't want to rule and there was no fuss made. Maybe the Din and Bo Katan can fight in single combat for her to get it cause seriously I will lose it if this show wants Din to lead Mandalore over Bo Katan. We also seem to have lost Boba and Fennec who we will see again in their solo adventure series.

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive in shall we?

The Irregular At Magic High School Season 2 Episode 10

This week is a little hard to review cause we spent most of it simply fighting the parasites and though it was all very exciting, I'm not sure whether it'll make a great review. In the end it looks like Miyuki destroyed all the parasites except for 3, one of which is Pixie and the other two went to the Yotsuba and the Kodou each. It's interesting cause I think I've finally figured out why so many people were spying on Tatsuya in the last few weeks cause in my mind I was picturing the fact that every one of the nine clans were Japanese so there was no need to fight other Japanese for the removal of these parasites but in actuality it looks more like every clan is out for themselves for the most part and each one wanted a parasite to study. I'll be curious to know if anything comes of this research. I guess we should also note that Miyuki used something that Lina described as Lunar magic and she seemed to think it was really rare and unique and it calls back to the fact that a few weeks ago we learned that not only does Miyuki have a release button on Tatsuya's full magic but Tatsuya also has one on Miyuki. Part of me wonders if somehow Tatsuya is supposed to be a clone of Miyuki or the other way around so that's why the two can merge so clearly. Lina also went through some stuff this week cause she's been struggling for a while to figure out if the USNA army is still where she wants to be after everything and though she didn't actually make a decision this week, Tatsuya did open her eyes to the fact that she does have more options.

The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 7

This episode was insane if only for the themes that it presented and the ripples it made. On the surface level though we didn't get a prison break like I expected, we did have what amounted to a side mission in order to get Moff Gideon's coordinates. Cara freed the prisoner we needed to take us to an Imperial base in order to hack an Imperial terminal and every time we see how much of this world is still overrun with Imperials I am honestly so sad cause it really does highlight once again that this peace and freedom that we achieved at the end of Revenge Of The Jedi was barely a blip in the timeline. The New Republic really did learn nothing from the fall of the Galactic Republic and ignored the Outer Rim just as much so of course the Empire camped out there growing strong until they could take over and become the First Order! The irony of all this is that my musings on the Empire though important in the long term isn't even the biggest takeaway from this episode. Din took off his Mandalorian armor and then showed his face to a lot of people, and yet still returned to his armor at the end and this is so so so important in terms of this show and Din himself. Over the course of this season we've seen Din meet all sorts of different Mandalorians that don't follow the Death Watch creed like he was raised on and it opened his eyes to the fact that being Mandalorian isn't as black or white like he first thought. If this happened in season 1, Din would fully believe that he's no longer worthy of his armor and that he's failed but now we see that he's more flexible about the rules and I'm sure that this is the start of him picking and choosing which rules he will follow. It's also important to note that the idea of Mandalore being destroyed came up once again and we know from earlier this season that Mandalore shouldn't be likened to Alderaan cause Mandalore still stands and it adds more fuel to the idea that maybe once Din accepts that Grogu can stay with him, he'll go help Bo Katan save their home world!

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive in shall we?

The Irregular At Magic High School Season 2 Episode 9

I think it's honestly hilarious how politically heavy this season is cause I never really would have expected it from the first season where it was all about the fun and games of attending a magic high school and now we're here fighting other governments and crime syndicates! We met Raymond this week who is one of the 7 Sages (7 of the of most powerful magicians in the world who have the ability to connect to this worldwide information network) and he told us that the man behind all of this chaos is Gide, another of the 7 Sages. He wants the world to no longer trust magic and wishes for the Great Asian Alliance to take over the world so he's the one who riled up the humans into being anti-magician (thus leading to those black hole experiments in the states to combat magicians) and he was also the one behind everything that happened last season with the invasion. After we stopped him, Gide lost all his eyes and ears in Japan which is why he is now trying to send these parasites to build a new spy base. Raymond obviously doesn't agree with this so he wants to team up with Tatsuya and Lina in order to kill all the parasites and cut Gide off in the knees. Meanwhile the 3 parasites we caught that were then stolen by the Saegusa Family in probs an attempt to understand them and then use them for their own benefits were murdered by Lina after both the Yotsuba and Raymond passed over intel. Maya probs just wanted to stop the Saegusa from getting more powerful but I'm not sure what I think of Raymond and his motives yet.

The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 6

This episode was honestly so intense that I thought it was a finale or even a penultimate episode for so much of it before realizing that no the penultimate episode is next week and it's that the craziest thing. Based on the way this show is going it feels like it'll be another jail break episode next week cause apparently Din needs to get one of the men he put in jail last season out so he can find Grogu but the thing is he really should have given his holo number to Bo Katan last time cause some more Mandalorians really wouldn't be a bad thing right now since her goals aline with Din's at the moment. They both want to find Moff Gideon and get something back from him. I do have to say it was seriously surprising though to see Boba Fett appear in this episode cause I really expected his one and only appearance to have taken place in that final scene in the premiere but he was back and he brought Fennec with him which made me happy cause more Ming Na Wen is always a good thing! It makes me even happier that he's going to be teaming up with Din in order to save Grogu so he'll be here until at least the finale! I also have to mention that I'm really confused about what Grogu did on that Seeing Rock cause that was not how I had seen the Force work before and I wonder if he did call out to other Jedi or if it was more like he connected to the Force in it's purest form. Either way he's no longer on the planet so unless whatever he did sends the remaining Jedi his current location, I'm not sure if we'll be seeing any more Jedi this season to my disappointment.

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive in shall we?

The Irregular At Magic High School Season 2 Episode 8

I want to start this week's review by shouting out how smart the villains are! We finally figured out what group was behind the parasites and it turns out to be the Chinese but I'm not sure if I can believe what they claim to want. Like Pixie told us, parasites take on the desires of their hosts so if the Chinese provide hosts to the parasites that want to kill all humans in order to protect magicians from being experimented on, then it's basically like the original magicians have all powerful parasites to do their bidding. The thing is that like Tatsuya explained, the parasites have had no problem hurting magicians up to this point so it's possible that the leader was completely lying or it's possible that he was telling the truth and the magicians were just casualties. What's also interesting is that Maya is definitely moving pieces around behind the scenes and all I want is to learn more about her cause she fascinates me the most in this show cause we know so little! I do wonder if she might have overplayed her hand with the Colonel as there's no reason for the Yotsuba themselves to step in and get the USNA to leave unless what the USNA want is the Yotsuba's property. Perhaps that's the goal? Like there's no way the Colonel wants to go to war with the most powerful magic clan so knowing that Tatsuya is under the Yotsuba protection might be the safest route for him. Meanwhile it looks like Honoka unlocked some secret magic powers that the Japanese military who were spying on them mentioned was some sort of elemental magic.

The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 5

Who else was pumped as hell to watch this episode?? I had a feeling that Ashoka was going to show up just based on the fact that Dave Filoni was directing this week and like obviously he would want to be a part of the live action debut for this beloved Star Wars character that he himself created. I also was right in guessing that Ashoka would be a one-off character and that she wouldn't actually take Baby Yoda with her to train cause duh this show would not be the same without him. We did learn though that Baby Yoda's name was Grogu and he apparently was around before the Clone Wars. He trained on Coruscant but was taken away to safety before Order 66 though he's apparently lost his memory since then so it's a blur as to who saved him and what happened to him before he was captured by the Empire. I'm still not sure if I love the idea of Ashoka sticking to the old Jedi traditions cause she of all people should have known that the old way might not be the best way and she's also seen plenty of Jedi like Ezra and Kanan who are emotionally attached to others and were fine. I also did like the shoutout that someone finally called out Din for practically being Grogu's father cause he has been one practically since they met! We did get a new mission though and that's traveling to Tython to find another Jedi and allow Grogu the chance to decide for himself what he wants to do. I wonder if this Jedi that he'll reach out to will be Ezra or maybe even Luke. I could see Grogu joining Luke's training camp that Ben destroys though I can't imagine that Mark Hamill would show up!!

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive in shall we?

The Irregular At Magic High School Season 2 Episode 7

This week I had the thought that it's really kind of ridiculous that the USNA could sneak all the way into Japan and try to assassinate one of the highest ranked magicians in the Japanese military but then again I suppose if they kept it secret and killed him before the Japanese military had any idea, they could always play dumb. Unfortunately for them Tatsuya was way out of their league and he was able to not only defeat Lina but also all the troops that were sent to capture him as well making a copy of all the footage they got of him and deleting the rest. With this evidence I'm fairly certain that the Yotsuba clan blackmailed the USNA into leave Japan maybe by being like you are illegally in this country and trying to kill our Japanese citizens without any right. What's interesting though is that it looks like they left Lina and I wonder if that's cause the Major thinks that Lina's been compromised (which technically she is with how she fell in love with Tatsuya and became such good friends with the other students) but at the same time we saw her in the military in the Irregular At Magic High School movie so maybe she'll help stop the parasites and get reinstated. It was also interesting to note that the Saegusa clan was following Tatsuya too and I wonder if this is more of what Mayumi hinted at in the first season with how the nine ruling clans were not happy with Tatsuya being a badass who's not affiliated with a clan (or so they think.) Another important thing to note is the parasite that jumped into Pixie explained how the parasites actually have no motivations or desires until they enter a host body which makes me think once again that this whole thing is a big elaborate plot on the part of the bad guys who want to rule the magic world.

The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 4

I should be annoyed that we took a detour from Trask to Ashoka but honestly I didn't expect that we would get two huge cameos back to back not to mention the fact that the Razorcrest was a complete mess so obviously step one would be for Din to get it fixed! In fact I ended up enjoying this episode a lot cause we got to see old friends again and we progressed the plot with Moff Gideon too. We found out that the reason the Empire wanted Baby Yoda was so they could experiment with it's blood to make as I'm assuming more Force-sensitive people cause they knew what a terrifying force Darth Vader was but I don't know if it works that way cause though we do know that children of Jedi usually are Force-sensitive, is it as simple as DNA or blood? Doesn't that really just suck the magic out of Star Wars?? Either way he ended up getting a spy to place a tracker on the Razorcrest and I high key hope that he swoops down to attack when Din and Baby Yoda are with Ahsoka! I also have to say that it's so ironic cause if only Din knew that Gideon had the Dark Saber cause then he could have told Bo Katan that Gideon is after Baby Yoda so if she stuck with him, she'd eventually find Gideon and get the Dark Saber back. I also liked the small plot point where Cara Dune got an open invite into joining the New Republic though part of me wished they had talked about Leia if they were also talking about Alderaan!

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive in shall we?

The Irregular At Magic High School Season 2 Episode 6

You know what the most fascinating part of this week was? The realization that I never thought about whether or not there were people in this world that couldn't use magic and whether or not they were bitter about that!! In hindsight of course there would be groups who are anti-magicians and of course the military is probs not the biggest fan of magicians cause they are loose canons which is why the major focus this week was on the fact that someone was trying to expel magicians from society through biased news reporters. What I'm confused about is what the plan is in the long term cause last I remembered this world is run by magicians and Japan is run by 9 magical families so who would have the power to try to push them out and how would they even dream to stop magicians? This is a world where bombs and bullets can be disintegrated! In other news I think we discovered who that group was from the premiere that was trying to produce magicians that could use magic without CADs through a bit of exposition from Lina and that name is the Seven Sages. They're not exactly humanists but more like people who like disorder and it's most likely possible that like Tatsuya said, they attracted the parasites over after the black hold experiment. As a sidebar this was also the Valentine's Day episode so we got to see a lot of cute moments across the board though poor Miki was heartbroken when he wasn't the only one to get chocolates from Mizuki and I was little sad that Erika didn't give Leo any!

The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 3

This week was seriously everything I ever could have wanted from this show and I'm high key heartbroken that the show-runners didn't go with this as their show premise. Din arrived as Trask and he found the Mandalorians he was looking for though to his surprise they weren't the kind of Mandalorians he expected. As it turns out, he was raised as part of the Death Watch which were the faction of Mandalorians that didn't believe in the more pacifist government style of Duchess Satine during the Clone Wars and then became Darth Maul's Shadow Collective towards the end. It totally explains this plot point of how strict Din was about not taking his helmet off when we've seen plenty of Mandalorians across the Star Wars universe that did though I have to admit when he awkwardly talked shit to Bo Katan herself about how they weren't Mandalorians cause they took their helmets off when she is literally the heiress to Mandalore and can probs trace her lineage back to the purest bloodline and he's just a foundling it was embarrassing as all hell to watch and felt similar to someone who's taken on a culture lecturing those who are born in the culture about what they're doing wrong. Speaking of, I absolutely adored seeing Bo Katan in live action and I love that she's hunting down Moff Gideon to take the dark saber back though I wished the show would have explained how she lost it cause last we saw in Star Wars Rebels, Sabine gave it to her. It sucks that this is probs her only appearance for the season but maybe just maybe we'll go back to her at some point later on in this show's run. I mean we can only drag out the I need to bring this child back to it's people storyline for so long and you would think with how much Din cares about being Mandalorian, that he would eventually rally to the idea of helping other Mandalorians take back their home planet! At the end Din got what he wanted when Bo Katan sent him to find Ashoka and of course I'm really pumped about her coming appearance but I also have the terrible feeling that Asokha's going to be like I'm not a Jedi and I don't want any part of this so you deal with this child on your own.

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive in shall we?

The Irregular At Magic High School Season 2 Episode 5

The ultimate struggle with this show is how technology heavy the magic in this world is and how much the show likes to play with that leaving me confused half of the time about what we're even learning about. We learned this week that Tatsuya's theory on magic in this world says that people are actually absorbing energy from another dimension and the black hole experiment actually tore a hole in the dimensional wall allowing things to come into this world from another. I think this means that I guessed right last week in assuming that the USNA black hole experiment didn't actually fail like the scientists thought but brought over parasites that can possess people and use magic without CADs cause it can open up holes to the other world on it's own. The question now is how sentient these parasites are and whether or not they've got some goal instead of literally just being parasites and attacking whomever is available. I can't help but think that earlier on in this show it felt like there was a group that was benefiting off of these parasites but maybe that was just supposed to be a red herring? I really did enjoy the fight we had this week with our whole cast fighting the parasite and the way different powers were highlighted in different ways making me think once again how I glad I am that this show doesn't just portray Tatsuya as the only capable hero not to mention the fact that this show likes to have ships other than every girl being obsessed with Tatsuya like the harem anime I thought this show would be at the beginning.

The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 2

Well this season is definitely doubling down on the fact that it really doesn't want to tell a cohesive story cause for the second week in a row we're watching Mando and Baby Yoda meander along to their goal while taking multiple pitstops. This week they have to transport a Frog Lady from Tatooine to Trask a planet with Mandalorians but they can't travel lightspeed cause the Frog Lady is carrying eggs which apparently will die if at lightspeed. One thing leads to another and they get recognized by New Republic ships as the ship that helped with the prison escape last season and so Mando has to land on some ice planet. As per usual, the ship breaks and hijinks occur and Mando has to fight a giant Ice Spider which was honestly horrifying to look at. Just as all hope was lost, the New Republic pilots show back up and save the day but proving that they are different from the Empire they end up letting Mando go cause he also brought in 3 war criminals besides letting some escape so all's well that ends well? As a sidebar I have to comment on how truly horrifying it was to also watch Baby Yoda eat so many of Frog Lady's eggs cause dude those were so not the funny moments that this show clearly wanted them to be! I'm also generally disappointed that we didn't actually see the ship getting to Trask but I'm hoping that next week when we do that we'll actually start moving forward again with meeting the Mandalorians Mando wants to see. I'm still forever going to be waiting for Sabine or Bo-Katon but I can't imagine that they'll be out on Trask rather than Lothal.

Top 10 Movies Of 2019

Hello all my lovelies! I hope you all had a great holiday season and now it's that time of year again where I list my favorite movies and tv shows of the year! I've been doing these for about six years now so you should know the drill but if you don't, I'm going to be listing my Top 10 Movies of 2019 from 10 to 1 with number 1 being my favorite movie of the year! If you're interested, I also have Top 10 Movies of 2013Top 10 Movies of 2014Top 10 Movies of 2015Top 10 Movies of 2016, and Top 10 Movies of 2017, and Top 10 Movies Of 2018 as well as my Favorite YouTube Videos and My Movie OTPs & Ships lists! Anyway, let's get right to it with our top 10!

The Lion King

Coming in at number 10 is Lion King! Disney live-action movies are kind of like a coin toss. Sometimes they're amazing and sometimes they're terrible and unfortunately this one landed closer to the terrible side than the amazing one like Beauty And The Beast. Part of the problem was that Lion King is one of my most adored Disney animated movies so the fact that the "live action" version was basically a shot-for-shot remake really lended to the fact that the original was just so much better! It was hard to see any emotions in the photo-realistic animals and tbh most of the voice cast wasn't strong enough to show us those emotions and I'll never not be bitter that they decided to make Be Prepared which is one of the best Disney villain numbers into a spoken version! Having said that it was a fun enough jaunt and paired with the fact that I didn't watch that many movies this year, that's why it ended up on my list.

Shazam

At number 9 is Shazam! Is this a surprise? I know a ton of people adored this movie but honestly I think it was too safe if that makes sense cause I just felt meh during most of it. I like the concept and I like the uniqueness of the origin story and how most of the movie was just Billy being silly before he finally had to fight the villain but it all felt like something I'd seen before even if in fact it was more unique than most superhero movies. Having said that I did enjoy the villain and his fall into villainy totally made sense and I loved that the theme of the movie was about family so we got the entire Marvel Family.

Captain Marvel

Coming in at number 8 is Captain Marvel! Maybe this is unfair but like Shazam I was meh during most of this movie. I liked the plot of this movie and how it used Nick Fury and that we got to experience more alien worlds but Carol was just so boring as a lead. The entire movie everyone kept telling her to watch her emotions and all we got from Carol was a stoic face and I was sitting there like dude what emotions?? I loved Jude Law and was totally crushed when his character became the epitome of douche-y sexist bro but I was also low key bitter that the movie decided to switch things up and have the Skrulls be the good guys rather than the slightly better than Kree version in the comics. Having said that I do have to admit that I thought it was creative the way the movie went about showing us Carol's origin story through a case of amnesia and basically going backwards through her life and of course her powers are the damn coolest so there's that.

Knives Out

At number 7 is Knives Out! Dudes you know my love for murder mysteries and somehow this one almost squeaked by without me knowing about it but as soon as I realized that it was one, I was all in and I have to admit that I was low key disappointed by the whole thing... I didn't love that the story started as a series of flashbacks rather than us seeing the party sequentially which I know was probs the movie trying to be creative but tropes are well loved for a reason! It was interesting however having the whole mystery being told through the eyes of one of the suspects rather than the detective which gave us a sense of urgency but the pacing was a little strange cause there was a whole chunk of the movie where I was like wait are we almost done? Having said that I did love all the characters though and the way they were acted and portrayed and like a special shoutout needs to go to Chris Evans looking absolutely delectable in every single scene of this movie!

Jumanji: The Next Level

Coming in at number 6 is Jumanji: The Next Level! I adored the prequel to this movie so much that I was low key afraid to check this movie out but after I did I was so glad cause it was just as fun as I wanted it to be. I think half the fun of these movies are just watching the actors play weird characters and you can practically see how much of a blast the cast it having. Ironically this is one of the only action movies in which the plot and action matter so little cause we're all attached to the characters! I loved the idea of all the main characters ending up in new video game bodies cause it allowed them to have to relearn how to do well in this game and in a meta sense gave us a reason to go back and have a sequel so that it wasn't just a repeat of the first movie. Honestly I'm still stunned that this movie didn't flop!

Spiderman: Homecoming

At number 5 is Spiderman: Far From Home! Though I think I enjoyed Spiderman: Homecoming a lot more than this movie I still had plenty of fun! I really liked the version of Peter we got in this movie and how tired and worn down he was cause it's like he's just a kid and he's mourning the man who helped him become who he is and I totally understood why he latched onto Mysterio so quickly even though Mysterio was walking around with a villain sticker practically plastered to his forehead. I also loved seeing Ned and the whole cast again but I do think the romance with MJ kinda went from 0 to 100 in this movie and the whole Europe setting was totally underutilized cause there was nothing in this movie that said that it couldn't take place in NYC. I really loved the ending though cause it leaves so many cool places for the MCU to go.

Avengers: Endgame

At number 4 is Avengers: Endgame! Though I might be like the only person on this planet that wasn't blown away by Endgame, I was still so into watching this movie and having a blast doing it! I loved that this was a culmination of 10 years of our lives and that it gave such lovely endings to so many characters that we won't see again and gave so many characters a new path to walk. I wasn't the hugest fan of the whole time travel aspect of the movie cause it felt too much like one of those let's look back on all we've experienced kind of things but at the same time we got so many beautiful moments in the final fight with Thanos that I can't help but be excited. I do think that Thor was reduced to close too a joke for all the trauma he had been through and I just can't see him giving up and walking away from his people at the end of the film but I do think that Steve's ending was perfect for him cause my romantic heart thinks that he deserves to spend his life with the one woman he loved!

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker

Coming in at number 3 is Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker! Surprised at how high this movie ended up being? Low key so am I! I haven't been the hugest fan of this new Star Wars trilogy and Last Jedi was honestly meh but I actually really ended up enjoying this conclusion to the Skywalker Saga. Maybe it has to do with my extremely low expectations going in but I didn't have any complaints with this movie and unlike many others I didn't nitpick at the plot holes cause I just straight up turned my brain off. Yeah yeah Palpatine returning was out of nowhere and yeah yeah a lot of this movie felt like course correcting from Last Jedi but I loved the way Rey and Ben were the heart of this movie and the return of Palpatine and Rey's parentage and the way that the movie used Leia after Carrie's passing! Leia's passing made me cry as did the final scene between Ben and Rey oddly enough which was super unexpected cause I never liked Ben until this movie!

Aladdin

Coming in at number 2 is Aladdin! Remember when I talked about how some Disney movies are hits earlier? Well this is one of those! I just can't describe to you just how much fun I had watching this movie and this is coming from a girl who's favorite Disney animated movie is Aladdin! I was a bit worried at the start of the film cause I didn't particularly think Mena who played Aladdin seemed like an Aladdin in posters but as soon as I saw him act, I was blown away! He was this perfect mix of smooth and dorky and charming all in one. Jasmine was stunning and just as feisty as I wanted her to be. I loved the small changes to the movie and how Jasmine was placed at the center and how her new goal was to become Sultan and how the movie picked some of the Broadway songs to throw in. Will Smith as the Genie was amazing and I loved that it was so different than the Robin Williams's genie. The colors and cinematography was perfect and if I had only one complaint it would be that I wasn't the hugest fan of this Jafar.

Pokemon: Detective Pikachu

And finally, at number 1 is Pokemon: Detective Pikachu! I mean how could it not have been?? I am a huge Pokemon fan having grown up with the cartoons (I was a Pokemon Advanced generation lover) and the games so of course I had to go see this movie but the surprise was in just how much of a blast I had! I mean yeah yeah the plot was totally ice thin and yeah yeah the final twist banked on the main character not recognizing his father's voice but seriously I could not care less about any of that! I loved seeing all the different Pokemon reimagined into real life and how they were the perfect mix of cute and real. I loved the world that the movie built and the way the Pokemon existed and helped. I loved Pikachu and his caffeine addiction! I just don't have enough words to describe how I squealed every other minute while sitting in the theater!

I'll see you all tomorrow for my Top 10 TV Shows of 2019!
