What Shows Did I Finish This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive right in shall we?

The Irregular At Magic High School: Reminiscence Arc

Guys you don't know how excited I was to watch this movie this week cause I'm low key obsessed with this series and I was nowhere near fulfilled last season with that terrible spinoff of season 1 of Irregular. I am a little saddened by the fact that we're getting another flashback but at least this time it's new stuff! We finally got to see more of Miyuki and Tatsuya before they became close and it was fascinating. I'm always looking for more info on the Yotsuba and I still don't have enough! It kinda did explain Tatsuya's backstory a little in that he was born without magic so Maya and Miyuki's mom worked together to transfer her power to him and though it worked he still has less magic than most people and as a side effect both he and the mom lost all sense of emotion except for Tatsuya's love towards Miyuki. I did wonder for a bit if the show was going to tell us that Tatsuya isn't actually Miyuki's blood brother given the fact that Miyuki's mom didn't consider Tatsuya her son and Miyuki kept calling her my mom and not our mom but if that is the case we're still in the dark about it. Truly can't wait to see more!

Fall 2020 Anime Awards

Hey guys! So this week was the last week of the Fall 2020 Anime Season so I thought it would be fun to shout out some of the my superlatives for the season!

Anime Of The Season

Haikyuu! To The Top Season 2 is definitely my anime of the season which is really funny to me cause I really didn't expect to love this show as much as I did when I first started it. I'm not usually a huge sports anime fan and I especially don't love anime in which every main character is male or every main character is female but I was convinced that I should check this show out so I did and I'm so thankful for it. This show is pretty much one of the best modern shounen stories out there and while at first you don't think about this anime being a shounen given that we don't fight monsters or play with magic, in the end it's an underdog story in which we follow our protagonists as they fight to reach their goal of being the best volleyball team in the country. Every character is fully rounded including every antagonist we meet, the animation is incredible, and the hype is real.

Runner Up - Irregular At Magic High School: Visitor Arc

Hidden Gem

Sleepless Princess is my pick for hidden gem of the season and I really was tossing it back and forth between this one and my runner up but in the end I went with Sleepless Princess cause while Akadama Drive was slept on by the vast majority, at least a few people I saw were watching it so if anything's a hidden gem, it's Sleepless Princess. I think the lack of interest in this show has to do with the fact that there's no real plot to this show or any real goals we need to reach. Instead we kind of get a slice-of-life comedy in which the Princess basically destroys the Demon Castle every week in order to invent new and exciting ways of sleeping better while also inadvertently worming her way into every demon's heart. The humor is spot on in this show and there were definitely moments when my heart was tugged on. I think if you're looking for something soft and happy-making, this show should definitely be checked out.

Runner Up - Akadama Drive

Best Sequel

Haikyuu! To The Top Season 2 is the best sequel of this season cause it's the one show that I looked forward to every week. It's totally interesting cause at the start of this season I expected the runner up to win just based on the fact that we hadn't got new Irregular episodes for years but in the end while Irregular was a nice jump back into nostalgia, Haikyuu was the show that got me excited week-to-week. The fact that since we had so much airtime devoted to one match alone let every single Karasuno member have a moment to shine and remind us why we adore them them all. Several volleys were absolutely out of this world and that's not even mentioning Hinata's power up! Like Suga we all cried thinking of how far Hinata grew from this little kid who just wanted to play to this beast who could catch receives like no other! I even loved the small break we took in order to catch up with Nekoma and unlike what a lot of people thought, it didn't feel like filler to me cause Nekoma is Karasuno's main rival team so of course when we can flesh them out, it's a good thing!

Runner Up - Irregular At Magic High School: Visitor Arc

Greatest Animation/Character Design

Akudama Drive had the best animation this season and there really was no competition here. I loved the way every character was drawn, the transitions between scenes were creative, and I've never seen exposition/world building done the way it was here with propaganda videos being shown. Even the world itself was beautiful to look at cause it was both post-apocalyptic and yet futuristic. I loved that the colors were so saturated except when they needed to prove a point (like seeing the world through Cutthroat's eyes.)

Runner Up - Moriarty The Patriot

Best OP

Steal by SPARK!!SOUND!!SHOW!! from Akudama Drive is definitely my favorite OP of the season. The show gets you pumped while also exciting your senses. I love the way the characters flash between normal light and UV light to show the blood that they have on their hands.

Runner Up - Howling by ASCA from Irregular At Magic High School: Visitor Arc

Protagonist Of The Season

William James Moriarty from Moriarty The Patriot is my protagonist of the season and maybe this is a cop out cause in all technicality James Moriarty should be the antagonist to Sherlock's protagonist but in this show we're following James and seeing the world through his eyes so I would definitely say he counts! I love how deep and complex James is as a lead cause I'm always so fascinated with leads that are not good people and the question of morality. Technically James has not killed a single person throughout this entire show though I suppose you could say he was an accomplice or like Sherlock that he is the mastermind (is that murder by proxy?) Another important question is whether or not it is really so horrible when the people who die are barely human themselves? James is fascinating cause he's leagues smarter than every other person in this show with maybe Sherlock being the only one at his level though the fact that he falls to vices doesn't make him as sharp. I adore the Moriarty crew and how loyal they are to each other and the idea of making a better London.

Runner Up - Tatsuya Shiba from Irregular At Magic High School: Visitor Arc

Antagonist Of The Season

Nana from Talentless Nana is my antagonist of the season and really could it have been anyone else? Nana is an interesting character cause while part of me feels bad for her cause the girl is clearly being used by her bosses in order to murder people who they're afraid is stronger than them but at the same time I can't help but hate her for killing so many people only to be left with the thought that most of these people weren't the innocents we thought they were so in the end is she really so bad? I did get tired at points throughout this show about how strong Nana's plot armor was and just how stupid the other Talented kids were but I can't exactly blame Nana and her characterization for that. She had a horrific childhood and was used to become the assassin she is now and yet part of her is constantly looking to be proven wrong. She hopes at times that the people she's about to kill aren't all bad and she's clearly won over by Mirchiru and without her intelligence and wit this show wouldn't be what it was.

Runner Up - The Executioners from Akudama Drive

Ship Of The Season

Tsukasa and Nasa from Tonikawa: Over The Moon For You are hands down my ship of the season and really they had no competition cause they were actually the only romantic ship of the season. I really loved just how good both Tsukasa and Nasa were. In most romance animes the male leads are kind of pervy (like in Rent-A-Girlfriend) or suave (hello Usui from Kaichou wa Maid Sama) but Nasa fell into neither of these categories. He was just plain good and everything that he got back was cause of the good he did for others. I loved the way the two slowly fell in love and that they had no problem hugging or kissing as their affection grew.

Runner Up - Miyuki and Tatsuya from Irregular At Magic High School: Visitor Arc

And with that I'll see you all in the Winter 2021 Season!

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! I hope you all had a lovely holiday season and let's dive into what I watched this week, shall we?

FINISHED

Bridgerton

So I was really very excited to check this show out cause you know I absolutely adore period dramas which is funny cause I know most people were interested in the fact that this show was produced by Shonda Rhimes but honestly her shows are a toss-up for me (Scandal and How To Get Away With Murder were fun until they weren't and For The People left us too soon.) What caught my attention right away was the sort of tongue-in-cheek tone of the show with how it balanced the plight of a woman back in the day when all she was good for was marriage with the humor looking back on it does now but I loved that the show never actually poked fun at it in a condescending way. A lot of period shows are written to have a lead who's "not like other girls" and hates societal conventions which are fun in their own way but it's so much more rare to find a lead who's the typical feminine character without having derision forced on her cause nowadays we like to believe that women have to be more masculine to be strong. Daphne is dutiful and kind but has her own backbone (and reminds me a lot of the House Tully motto) while Simon is riddled with a torturous past that he hides by acting like a scoundrel only to be one of the kindest men in this show. Those two made this show with their chemistry and you know I'm a sucker for enemies to lovers and watching a man who hates love fall head over heels. I also liked that a lot of Daphne's siblings had their own storylines though perhaps a bit more screen time for each of them would have been nice and I kind of wish the show had focused a bit more on the siblings being together but I have to say Daphne's mom was the best side character in this show alongside Simon's aunt which is why of course the two played matchmaker to have the kids together. I even liked that the show decided not to end after Daphne and Simon got married (cause there's more to a happily ever after than marriage) though I probably could have done without all the marriage angst and I especially didn't love the extreme focus on Simon not wanting children which I feel was poorly done cause I sincerely believe that children aren't the end all be all and I couldn't get why Daphne couldn't give Simon a second to breathe over it! Of course in the end they got their son and the two reconciled so happy endings all around? We also found out that the lady behind the gossip column ended up being Penny herself which was actually kind of unexpected cause I totally threw my vote for the tailoress!

I do wonder if there will be a season 2 for this show cause none has been announced but I know based on research that this show is based on the first book in a series of novels so it's possible that like this season focused on Daphne that future seasons might focus on other siblings? After all this show was called Bridgerton and not The Duke And I like the book it was adapted from but maybe that's all just wishful thinking cause I do think the story came to a pretty good end here!

FINISHED The Irregular At Magic High School Season 2 Episode 12 & 13

So because of the holidays and having to push back my weekly posts, I ended up having watched both the penultimate and finale episodes of the season before this review came up so I decided to combine them. We spent these two episodes continuing on with the introduction of Minami which I think was the purpose of these last 3 episodes after Lina went back to America. Minami is clearly going to be a main character from now on but I can't help but wish that the movie hadn't spoiled the fact that she dies cause it takes a little bit of the bite out of the apple! It does make me happy that she's here though cause she was sent by Maya to protect the others from a terrorist group was going to set up shop there. We also did learn that the girl we kept seeing over and over in this season was actually part of a branch family of the Yotsuba who are in charge of intelligence gathering. The more I see of the Yotsuba, the more I think they're so cool and I wish that we could spend more time there. Like Miyuki is supposed to be the new head right so why doesn't she spend more time learning about the Yotsuba and how it works. I mean I understand that since the show focuses so hard on the high school that we focus on Tatsuya's friends but it's also interesting how this second season also dialed back so much of Tatsuya's time with the military and in the end they were even a hindrance for him. I'm guessing that since he's a Yotsuba and has a vow to protect Miyuki that in the end everything else is just a means to an end. We were able to stop the terrorist attack but it really wasn't all that difficult and I didn't exactly worry either cause after everything a bunch of small-time magicians couldn't pose a threat.

We haven't gotten a confirmation about whether there will be a season 3 but I really really hope there is one cause we're barely scraping the surface of this world and this story so here's hoping another season doesn't take years again!

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive in shall we?

The Irregular At Magic High School Season 2 Episode 11

It seems like a weird choice to start a new arc when we're 3 episodes from the season finale cause there's no possible way that this new arc can be fully experienced in that short amount of time! With the parasites being caught last week, it seems like not only did the visitor arc come to an end but also the school year and therefore Lina returned to the states while Shizuku came back to Japan. All of the third years we've met in the first season like Mayumi, Mari, and Katsuto graduated making me wonder if we'll see them much from now on cause it's not like they're actually part of our main circle of friends! With the start of Tatsuya and Miyuki's second year of high school, we see that Tatsuya, Mizuki, and Miki were all bumped up from Course 2 to Course 1 which makes sense though Erika and Leo are still in Course 1 which at first seems unfair but when you think about it, the courses are meant to rank students based on their magic ability and while Erika and Leo are competent and badass in the field, they fight using non-magic abilities most of the time. We also met a new character named Minami who's working for Maya though if I remember correctly, she was being mourned by Miyuki and Tatsuya making me wonder if she's supposed to be genetically engineered like Tatsuya.

FINISHED The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 8

Shit okay this season finale absolutely blew my mind and that's cause of one person: LUKE FREAKING SKYWALKER!!!! I was so so so so so curious if this show would ever have him show up cause on paper it would make so much sense to connect the two with how Grogu is looking for a Jedi master and how we know that in canon Luke wanted to rebuild the Jedi Order but in reality it would be harder cause Mark Hamill isn't young enough to play Luke right after the Return Of The Jedi. There was a lot of speculation over whether the show would just cast someone to play Luke and be like the magic of moviemaking to ignore it or if they would use their deaging program and in the end it was the second option which okay I know a lot of people will complain about but honestly to me it was better than both the other times we've seen young Leia (in Rogue One and Rise Of Skywalker) and at the end of the day it's more about the message we're getting than the effect! Luke was so badass coming in and destroying all the Death Troopers and even Moff Gideon realized he was out of luck! The final goodbye between Din and Grogu was so sweet and I loved that he even went as far as to take his helmet off to say goodbye. It really does look like Din's starting to learn to be more flexible. It also looks like we will be moving forward with the taking back of Mandalore storyline next season but like seriously the new rule about the Dark Saber only being owned by the person who fought for it is a little ridiculous cause if I remember in Star Wars Rebels, Sabine won it and then gave it to Bo Katan cause she didn't want to rule and there was no fuss made. Maybe the Din and Bo Katan can fight in single combat for her to get it cause seriously I will lose it if this show wants Din to lead Mandalore over Bo Katan. We also seem to have lost Boba and Fennec who we will see again in their solo adventure series.

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive in shall we?

The Irregular At Magic High School Season 2 Episode 10

This week is a little hard to review cause we spent most of it simply fighting the parasites and though it was all very exciting, I'm not sure whether it'll make a great review. In the end it looks like Miyuki destroyed all the parasites except for 3, one of which is Pixie and the other two went to the Yotsuba and the Kodou each. It's interesting cause I think I've finally figured out why so many people were spying on Tatsuya in the last few weeks cause in my mind I was picturing the fact that every one of the nine clans were Japanese so there was no need to fight other Japanese for the removal of these parasites but in actuality it looks more like every clan is out for themselves for the most part and each one wanted a parasite to study. I'll be curious to know if anything comes of this research. I guess we should also note that Miyuki used something that Lina described as Lunar magic and she seemed to think it was really rare and unique and it calls back to the fact that a few weeks ago we learned that not only does Miyuki have a release button on Tatsuya's full magic but Tatsuya also has one on Miyuki. Part of me wonders if somehow Tatsuya is supposed to be a clone of Miyuki or the other way around so that's why the two can merge so clearly. Lina also went through some stuff this week cause she's been struggling for a while to figure out if the USNA army is still where she wants to be after everything and though she didn't actually make a decision this week, Tatsuya did open her eyes to the fact that she does have more options.

The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 7

This episode was insane if only for the themes that it presented and the ripples it made. On the surface level though we didn't get a prison break like I expected, we did have what amounted to a side mission in order to get Moff Gideon's coordinates. Cara freed the prisoner we needed to take us to an Imperial base in order to hack an Imperial terminal and every time we see how much of this world is still overrun with Imperials I am honestly so sad cause it really does highlight once again that this peace and freedom that we achieved at the end of Revenge Of The Jedi was barely a blip in the timeline. The New Republic really did learn nothing from the fall of the Galactic Republic and ignored the Outer Rim just as much so of course the Empire camped out there growing strong until they could take over and become the First Order! The irony of all this is that my musings on the Empire though important in the long term isn't even the biggest takeaway from this episode. Din took off his Mandalorian armor and then showed his face to a lot of people, and yet still returned to his armor at the end and this is so so so important in terms of this show and Din himself. Over the course of this season we've seen Din meet all sorts of different Mandalorians that don't follow the Death Watch creed like he was raised on and it opened his eyes to the fact that being Mandalorian isn't as black or white like he first thought. If this happened in season 1, Din would fully believe that he's no longer worthy of his armor and that he's failed but now we see that he's more flexible about the rules and I'm sure that this is the start of him picking and choosing which rules he will follow. It's also important to note that the idea of Mandalore being destroyed came up once again and we know from earlier this season that Mandalore shouldn't be likened to Alderaan cause Mandalore still stands and it adds more fuel to the idea that maybe once Din accepts that Grogu can stay with him, he'll go help Bo Katan save their home world!

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive in shall we?

The Irregular At Magic High School Season 2 Episode 9

I think it's honestly hilarious how politically heavy this season is cause I never really would have expected it from the first season where it was all about the fun and games of attending a magic high school and now we're here fighting other governments and crime syndicates! We met Raymond this week who is one of the 7 Sages (7 of the of most powerful magicians in the world who have the ability to connect to this worldwide information network) and he told us that the man behind all of this chaos is Gide, another of the 7 Sages. He wants the world to no longer trust magic and wishes for the Great Asian Alliance to take over the world so he's the one who riled up the humans into being anti-magician (thus leading to those black hole experiments in the states to combat magicians) and he was also the one behind everything that happened last season with the invasion. After we stopped him, Gide lost all his eyes and ears in Japan which is why he is now trying to send these parasites to build a new spy base. Raymond obviously doesn't agree with this so he wants to team up with Tatsuya and Lina in order to kill all the parasites and cut Gide off in the knees. Meanwhile the 3 parasites we caught that were then stolen by the Saegusa Family in probs an attempt to understand them and then use them for their own benefits were murdered by Lina after both the Yotsuba and Raymond passed over intel. Maya probs just wanted to stop the Saegusa from getting more powerful but I'm not sure what I think of Raymond and his motives yet.

The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 6

This episode was honestly so intense that I thought it was a finale or even a penultimate episode for so much of it before realizing that no the penultimate episode is next week and it's that the craziest thing. Based on the way this show is going it feels like it'll be another jail break episode next week cause apparently Din needs to get one of the men he put in jail last season out so he can find Grogu but the thing is he really should have given his holo number to Bo Katan last time cause some more Mandalorians really wouldn't be a bad thing right now since her goals aline with Din's at the moment. They both want to find Moff Gideon and get something back from him. I do have to say it was seriously surprising though to see Boba Fett appear in this episode cause I really expected his one and only appearance to have taken place in that final scene in the premiere but he was back and he brought Fennec with him which made me happy cause more Ming Na Wen is always a good thing! It makes me even happier that he's going to be teaming up with Din in order to save Grogu so he'll be here until at least the finale! I also have to mention that I'm really confused about what Grogu did on that Seeing Rock cause that was not how I had seen the Force work before and I wonder if he did call out to other Jedi or if it was more like he connected to the Force in it's purest form. Either way he's no longer on the planet so unless whatever he did sends the remaining Jedi his current location, I'm not sure if we'll be seeing any more Jedi this season to my disappointment.

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive in shall we?

The Irregular At Magic High School Season 2 Episode 8

I want to start this week's review by shouting out how smart the villains are! We finally figured out what group was behind the parasites and it turns out to be the Chinese but I'm not sure if I can believe what they claim to want. Like Pixie told us, parasites take on the desires of their hosts so if the Chinese provide hosts to the parasites that want to kill all humans in order to protect magicians from being experimented on, then it's basically like the original magicians have all powerful parasites to do their bidding. The thing is that like Tatsuya explained, the parasites have had no problem hurting magicians up to this point so it's possible that the leader was completely lying or it's possible that he was telling the truth and the magicians were just casualties. What's also interesting is that Maya is definitely moving pieces around behind the scenes and all I want is to learn more about her cause she fascinates me the most in this show cause we know so little! I do wonder if she might have overplayed her hand with the Colonel as there's no reason for the Yotsuba themselves to step in and get the USNA to leave unless what the USNA want is the Yotsuba's property. Perhaps that's the goal? Like there's no way the Colonel wants to go to war with the most powerful magic clan so knowing that Tatsuya is under the Yotsuba protection might be the safest route for him. Meanwhile it looks like Honoka unlocked some secret magic powers that the Japanese military who were spying on them mentioned was some sort of elemental magic.

The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 5

Who else was pumped as hell to watch this episode?? I had a feeling that Ashoka was going to show up just based on the fact that Dave Filoni was directing this week and like obviously he would want to be a part of the live action debut for this beloved Star Wars character that he himself created. I also was right in guessing that Ashoka would be a one-off character and that she wouldn't actually take Baby Yoda with her to train cause duh this show would not be the same without him. We did learn though that Baby Yoda's name was Grogu and he apparently was around before the Clone Wars. He trained on Coruscant but was taken away to safety before Order 66 though he's apparently lost his memory since then so it's a blur as to who saved him and what happened to him before he was captured by the Empire. I'm still not sure if I love the idea of Ashoka sticking to the old Jedi traditions cause she of all people should have known that the old way might not be the best way and she's also seen plenty of Jedi like Ezra and Kanan who are emotionally attached to others and were fine. I also did like the shoutout that someone finally called out Din for practically being Grogu's father cause he has been one practically since they met! We did get a new mission though and that's traveling to Tython to find another Jedi and allow Grogu the chance to decide for himself what he wants to do. I wonder if this Jedi that he'll reach out to will be Ezra or maybe even Luke. I could see Grogu joining Luke's training camp that Ben destroys though I can't imagine that Mark Hamill would show up!!

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive in shall we?

The Irregular At Magic High School Season 2 Episode 7

This week I had the thought that it's really kind of ridiculous that the USNA could sneak all the way into Japan and try to assassinate one of the highest ranked magicians in the Japanese military but then again I suppose if they kept it secret and killed him before the Japanese military had any idea, they could always play dumb. Unfortunately for them Tatsuya was way out of their league and he was able to not only defeat Lina but also all the troops that were sent to capture him as well making a copy of all the footage they got of him and deleting the rest. With this evidence I'm fairly certain that the Yotsuba clan blackmailed the USNA into leave Japan maybe by being like you are illegally in this country and trying to kill our Japanese citizens without any right. What's interesting though is that it looks like they left Lina and I wonder if that's cause the Major thinks that Lina's been compromised (which technically she is with how she fell in love with Tatsuya and became such good friends with the other students) but at the same time we saw her in the military in the Irregular At Magic High School movie so maybe she'll help stop the parasites and get reinstated. It was also interesting to note that the Saegusa clan was following Tatsuya too and I wonder if this is more of what Mayumi hinted at in the first season with how the nine ruling clans were not happy with Tatsuya being a badass who's not affiliated with a clan (or so they think.) Another important thing to note is the parasite that jumped into Pixie explained how the parasites actually have no motivations or desires until they enter a host body which makes me think once again that this whole thing is a big elaborate plot on the part of the bad guys who want to rule the magic world.

The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 4

I should be annoyed that we took a detour from Trask to Ashoka but honestly I didn't expect that we would get two huge cameos back to back not to mention the fact that the Razorcrest was a complete mess so obviously step one would be for Din to get it fixed! In fact I ended up enjoying this episode a lot cause we got to see old friends again and we progressed the plot with Moff Gideon too. We found out that the reason the Empire wanted Baby Yoda was so they could experiment with it's blood to make as I'm assuming more Force-sensitive people cause they knew what a terrifying force Darth Vader was but I don't know if it works that way cause though we do know that children of Jedi usually are Force-sensitive, is it as simple as DNA or blood? Doesn't that really just suck the magic out of Star Wars?? Either way he ended up getting a spy to place a tracker on the Razorcrest and I high key hope that he swoops down to attack when Din and Baby Yoda are with Ahsoka! I also have to say that it's so ironic cause if only Din knew that Gideon had the Dark Saber cause then he could have told Bo Katan that Gideon is after Baby Yoda so if she stuck with him, she'd eventually find Gideon and get the Dark Saber back. I also liked the small plot point where Cara Dune got an open invite into joining the New Republic though part of me wished they had talked about Leia if they were also talking about Alderaan!

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive in shall we?

The Irregular At Magic High School Season 2 Episode 6

You know what the most fascinating part of this week was? The realization that I never thought about whether or not there were people in this world that couldn't use magic and whether or not they were bitter about that!! In hindsight of course there would be groups who are anti-magicians and of course the military is probs not the biggest fan of magicians cause they are loose canons which is why the major focus this week was on the fact that someone was trying to expel magicians from society through biased news reporters. What I'm confused about is what the plan is in the long term cause last I remembered this world is run by magicians and Japan is run by 9 magical families so who would have the power to try to push them out and how would they even dream to stop magicians? This is a world where bombs and bullets can be disintegrated! In other news I think we discovered who that group was from the premiere that was trying to produce magicians that could use magic without CADs through a bit of exposition from Lina and that name is the Seven Sages. They're not exactly humanists but more like people who like disorder and it's most likely possible that like Tatsuya said, they attracted the parasites over after the black hold experiment. As a sidebar this was also the Valentine's Day episode so we got to see a lot of cute moments across the board though poor Miki was heartbroken when he wasn't the only one to get chocolates from Mizuki and I was little sad that Erika didn't give Leo any!

The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 3

This week was seriously everything I ever could have wanted from this show and I'm high key heartbroken that the show-runners didn't go with this as their show premise. Din arrived as Trask and he found the Mandalorians he was looking for though to his surprise they weren't the kind of Mandalorians he expected. As it turns out, he was raised as part of the Death Watch which were the faction of Mandalorians that didn't believe in the more pacifist government style of Duchess Satine during the Clone Wars and then became Darth Maul's Shadow Collective towards the end. It totally explains this plot point of how strict Din was about not taking his helmet off when we've seen plenty of Mandalorians across the Star Wars universe that did though I have to admit when he awkwardly talked shit to Bo Katan herself about how they weren't Mandalorians cause they took their helmets off when she is literally the heiress to Mandalore and can probs trace her lineage back to the purest bloodline and he's just a foundling it was embarrassing as all hell to watch and felt similar to someone who's taken on a culture lecturing those who are born in the culture about what they're doing wrong. Speaking of, I absolutely adored seeing Bo Katan in live action and I love that she's hunting down Moff Gideon to take the dark saber back though I wished the show would have explained how she lost it cause last we saw in Star Wars Rebels, Sabine gave it to her. It sucks that this is probs her only appearance for the season but maybe just maybe we'll go back to her at some point later on in this show's run. I mean we can only drag out the I need to bring this child back to it's people storyline for so long and you would think with how much Din cares about being Mandalorian, that he would eventually rally to the idea of helping other Mandalorians take back their home planet! At the end Din got what he wanted when Bo Katan sent him to find Ashoka and of course I'm really pumped about her coming appearance but I also have the terrible feeling that Asokha's going to be like I'm not a Jedi and I don't want any part of this so you deal with this child on your own.

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive in shall we?

The Irregular At Magic High School Season 2 Episode 5

The ultimate struggle with this show is how technology heavy the magic in this world is and how much the show likes to play with that leaving me confused half of the time about what we're even learning about. We learned this week that Tatsuya's theory on magic in this world says that people are actually absorbing energy from another dimension and the black hole experiment actually tore a hole in the dimensional wall allowing things to come into this world from another. I think this means that I guessed right last week in assuming that the USNA black hole experiment didn't actually fail like the scientists thought but brought over parasites that can possess people and use magic without CADs cause it can open up holes to the other world on it's own. The question now is how sentient these parasites are and whether or not they've got some goal instead of literally just being parasites and attacking whomever is available. I can't help but think that earlier on in this show it felt like there was a group that was benefiting off of these parasites but maybe that was just supposed to be a red herring? I really did enjoy the fight we had this week with our whole cast fighting the parasite and the way different powers were highlighted in different ways making me think once again how I glad I am that this show doesn't just portray Tatsuya as the only capable hero not to mention the fact that this show likes to have ships other than every girl being obsessed with Tatsuya like the harem anime I thought this show would be at the beginning.

The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 2

Well this season is definitely doubling down on the fact that it really doesn't want to tell a cohesive story cause for the second week in a row we're watching Mando and Baby Yoda meander along to their goal while taking multiple pitstops. This week they have to transport a Frog Lady from Tatooine to Trask a planet with Mandalorians but they can't travel lightspeed cause the Frog Lady is carrying eggs which apparently will die if at lightspeed. One thing leads to another and they get recognized by New Republic ships as the ship that helped with the prison escape last season and so Mando has to land on some ice planet. As per usual, the ship breaks and hijinks occur and Mando has to fight a giant Ice Spider which was honestly horrifying to look at. Just as all hope was lost, the New Republic pilots show back up and save the day but proving that they are different from the Empire they end up letting Mando go cause he also brought in 3 war criminals besides letting some escape so all's well that ends well? As a sidebar I have to comment on how truly horrifying it was to also watch Baby Yoda eat so many of Frog Lady's eggs cause dude those were so not the funny moments that this show clearly wanted them to be! I'm also generally disappointed that we didn't actually see the ship getting to Trask but I'm hoping that next week when we do that we'll actually start moving forward again with meeting the Mandalorians Mando wants to see. I'm still forever going to be waiting for Sabine or Bo-Katon but I can't imagine that they'll be out on Trask rather than Lothal.

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive in shall we?

The Irregular At Magic High School Season 2 Episode 4

I'm not entirely sure if we got any more answers this week than what we had already known in terms of the parasite plot but we did get some important character moments. Lina and Miyuki ended up dueling in order for Lina to answer some of Tatsuya's questions which did make me happy cause Miyuki is a badass but always seems to be overshadowed by Tatsuya so when she not only gets screen time but time to showcase her power, I'm happy. I do think it sucks a little that she and Lina were so close in power but Lina did mention that she would lose if the duel went on so I'm not all that upset by it. What was interesting to note is that the control the siblings have over one another isn't actually a one-way thing like I thought cause Tatsuya was also able to give Miyuki's control back to her making me wonder if Miyuki was also experimented on but to a lesser degree than Tatsuya. Also interesting to note is how Miyuki mentioned that Tatsuya is starting to feel compassion for people other than her which is strange cause his programming shouldn't allow that which begs the question is he getting stronger than his programming or is Maya turning down the effect cause of some long game she's got planned? In terms of the parasite plot it seems that Shizuku discovered that the USNA were doing some sort of experiment on black holes and after this experiment failed, the parasites started appearing making me think that this black hole actually ended up opening the world to the alternate dimension Yakumo Kokonoe mentioned last week where spirits come from. We also learned from Lina that the parasites are defectors from the USNA which were probs infected by these spirits and turned into parasites. I'm still curious to know how/if this relates back to that group we met early on that is studying magicians and the ability to perform magic without CADs.

The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 1

So we're back with a second season and if I'm being honest it was a bit of a slow return but that's only cause I had so many expectations for this season based on what I had heard and we didn't exactly jump off to a big bang. It honestly felt a little more like a midseason episode than a premiere and I can't decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing especially since I was a little surprised that the showrunners decided to stick with their formula from last season despite the complaints. A lot of people had problems with this show cause they thought it was too slow and meandering and while I had similar agreements at different moments throughout the season (especially early on), I enjoyed the unique take this show had on the Star Wars universe and as the season went on, there were more and more interesting episodes. I mean I wasn't exactly thrilled that there was no real end goal that Mando had to reach but since it was so unlike any of the Star Wars movies or cartoons I've seen, I did want to give it props. I was even more excited with this second season with the announcements that Ashoka, Boba Fett and Sabine and Bo Katan from Star Wars Rebels would be appearing but I really should lower my expectations cause duh with this show they'll all probs just appear for one episode a piece before disappearing again because they're all big names and if they stuck around, maybe they will overshadow Mando. All that said, this week's major plot followed Mando as he traveled to Tatooine to find another Mandalorian that could help him figure out Baby Yoda's race but rather than finding a Mandalorian, he found a native Tatooine man who was wearing Boba Fett's armor. In the end Mando was able to get the armor back but more importantly as he rode off into the sunset we saw that Boba Fett was watching him!!

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive right in shall we?

The West Wing Special

I don't think I've ever actually gushed about my love with The West Wing here on this blog but that's only because I've never really had an outlet to do so since it has been years and years since this show has been off the air. I actually saw it for the first time a few years ago on Netflix and have subsequently rewatched it more times than I can count as it is definitely one of my top 5 shows of all time. Now I understand all the controversy surrounding it (lack of representation in terms of people of color, over idealized take on politics, very left-wing and all that) but honestly none of that has ever bothered me while watching it and we also need to remember what time this was filmed in. Having said all that what struck me as really fascinating while watching this reunion special was just how much of this script from the early 2000s still rang true today. Honestly at first I didn't realize that this reunion was even happening until I saw it appear on HBO Max but that didn't take away from the sheer joy it gave me to see all the cast come together once again. I loved the guest appearances from politicians and other celebrities and the way the whole thing was filmed and directed. I didn't expect for it to play out so well on a stage but it did. The messages the cast gave out in-between acts were all very educational too and all-in-all I really enjoyed myself and low key I think I might need to start another binge of The West Wing cause we all need our happy-making shows in these trying times.

The Irregular At Magic High School Season 2 Episode 3

It's really interesting how much focus this season is giving to the idea of Ancient Magic. Like we met Mikihiko last season but we didn't really learn much about the way his magic worked other than he harnessed spirits to do his bidding but now we learn that these spirits aren't even from our world. I do have a feeling that our Big Bad can use magic without a CAD cause of these spirits and maybe Tatsuya will end up learning this too cause clearly the man needs to be more badass than he already is *wink wink nudge nudge* but I would honestly prefer if Miyuki learned it or Mikihiko himself cause he's already part of that world. I don't think I mentioned in this previous reviews but one of my favorite things about this show is despite Tatsuya being the clear main character of this show, the ensemble cast is also something to write home about. They're all competent in their own ways and I love that there is a mix of male and female characters as well as side romances so not every girl in this show is meant to join Tatsuya's harem. It's especially evident this season where the focus is clearly on plot and world-building. I'm glad that we're starting to combine factions now cause everyone is trying to hunt down these so-called vampires but we were running 3 different groups (Tatsuya and co, the Americans, and Saegusa/Jumonji) with 3 different amounts of intel and really the enemy of my enemy is my friend is super evident especially now that Tatsuya has confirmed that Lina is the spy from Stars.

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive right in shall we?

The Irregular At Magic High School Season 2 Episode 2

Last week felt like a bit of a reintroduction to the world of this show while this week we seemed to settle in a bit more into the mystery that we'll have to solve. It seems as though there's some sort of evil group that's attempting to completely get rid of the need to use CADs in order to use magic and though it looks like they were able to get one person to do this, they don't have enough subjects to test on which is why so many magicians are dying on the streets. I'm assuming that they were taking some of the blood from their victims and testing it but when it wouldn't work, they ended up killing the victims. I also wonder if a side-effect of this ability is a need to absorb energy from others which is why the person that attacked Leo stole his energy and why she's being considered a parasite by Miki. I'm super down with this whole thing cause it definitely highlights the strengths of our cast once again and I'm sure that eventually we'll being Lina into the loop and maybe some of the upperclassman too. I am curious to know if there's a correlation between the Saegusa family and the group we'll be hunting. Like we know in this world that the Yotsuba are much more powerful than all the other clans and clearly based on Tatsuya the clans have no problem with experimenting on magicians so what if the Saegusa were the one who created the first psychic magician but unlike Tatsuya they had no way to control him/her and one thing led to another and we have this vampire killing. I still want Tatsuya and Miyuki to reveal themselves as Yotsuba cause the bitter bitch in me is still pissed that Mayumi tried to get Tatsuya to marry her cause the clans didn't like that he was powerful and not a clan member.

What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive right in shall we?

FINISHED Criminal Minds Season 1 - 15

If you've been reading some of my reviews over the past few months you may have noticed that I have mentioned here and there that I've been binging Criminal Minds. It's been like 6 months since I first started this show which seems a bit pathetic but considering that this show has 15 seasons, it makes sense that I was chugging along slowly. It also didn't help that since this show is more of a procedural than a serialized show, I felt like it was better to watch a few episodes here and there rather than nonstop like I do for most shows I binge. It's absolutely insane that this show actually spanned 15 years but binging it meant that I could watch our characters grow from the little babies they were to who they are now. I loved the revolving door of cast members cause it gave the show a bit of a real feel but I also loved that so many characters stayed from the pilot and kept on through to the end. Spencer was naturally my favorite but I also loved JJ so of course I kind of wished they would have ended up together but I think I was more annoyed with how the show randomly teased us with them only to be like nah we like our status quo cause it's like why even bother after 14 seasons to be like maybe there was something there. I did love the way this show portrayed the FBI and serial killers and there were plenty of really amazing episodes that stood out though I don't know if I can list them all off the top of my head. I do think this is one of the better cop procedurals out there and though it's not going to end up on my top 5 shows of all time list, it's still worth a watch if you are living in quarantine and need a long term show to make the hours go by!

The Irregular At Magic High School Season 2 Episode 1

I'm honestly so excited to be able to watch this show again cause it feels so surreal to say that we're back with a new season with how the first season came out back in 2014 (even though I didn't watch it until 2017) so it's insane that despite the popularity of this show that it took 6 years for another one! This show is one of the only power fantasy shows I adore cause it's also got a wonderful cast full of both badass guys and girls so it's not entirely a harem anime and though I could do with less technical explanations of how magic work, I love the way magic and fighting is depicted in this world. I do have to say that it surprised me a little to realize that this season is actually taking place between season 1 and the movie that came out in 2018. When I was watching the movie I sort of just assumed that like in season 1 we were just thrown in the middle of this world so of course Tatsuya and Miyuki knew Lina aka the Commander of the USNA but actually after watching this first episode, it looks like we're actually about to watch their friendship bloom in front of us. I actually really like this idea cause it feels like we're expanding this world to outside of just Japan though then again it's not exactly like we really know the landscape of Japan either. All we know from season 1 is that there are 10 major clans who run the government and a military that I think works separately from the government as well as 9 different magic schools across Japan. Beyond this I'm also seriously hoping that this season manages to squeeze in Tatsuya and Miyuki's backstory and maybe even explain who the Yotsuba family and how powerful they are in their own right cause I feel like we keep getting hints but no real material!
