What Shows Am I Watching This Week?

Hello everyone and welcome back! Let's dive right in shall we?

The West Wing Special

I don't think I've ever actually gushed about my love with The West Wing here on this blog but that's only because I've never really had an outlet to do so since it has been years and years since this show has been off the air. I actually saw it for the first time a few years ago on Netflix and have subsequently rewatched it more times than I can count as it is definitely one of my top 5 shows of all time. Now I understand all the controversy surrounding it (lack of representation in terms of people of color, over idealized take on politics, very left-wing and all that) but honestly none of that has ever bothered me while watching it and we also need to remember what time this was filmed in. Having said all that what struck me as really fascinating while watching this reunion special was just how much of this script from the early 2000s still rang true today. Honestly at first I didn't realize that this reunion was even happening until I saw it appear on HBO Max but that didn't take away from the sheer joy it gave me to see all the cast come together once again. I loved the guest appearances from politicians and other celebrities and the way the whole thing was filmed and directed. I didn't expect for it to play out so well on a stage but it did. The messages the cast gave out in-between acts were all very educational too and all-in-all I really enjoyed myself and low key I think I might need to start another binge of The West Wing cause we all need our happy-making shows in these trying times.

The Irregular At Magic High School Season 2 Episode 3

It's really interesting how much focus this season is giving to the idea of Ancient Magic. Like we met Mikihiko last season but we didn't really learn much about the way his magic worked other than he harnessed spirits to do his bidding but now we learn that these spirits aren't even from our world. I do have a feeling that our Big Bad can use magic without a CAD cause of these spirits and maybe Tatsuya will end up learning this too cause clearly the man needs to be more badass than he already is *wink wink nudge nudge* but I would honestly prefer if Miyuki learned it or Mikihiko himself cause he's already part of that world. I don't think I mentioned in this previous reviews but one of my favorite things about this show is despite Tatsuya being the clear main character of this show, the ensemble cast is also something to write home about. They're all competent in their own ways and I love that there is a mix of male and female characters as well as side romances so not every girl in this show is meant to join Tatsuya's harem. It's especially evident this season where the focus is clearly on plot and world-building. I'm glad that we're starting to combine factions now cause everyone is trying to hunt down these so-called vampires but we were running 3 different groups (Tatsuya and co, the Americans, and Saegusa/Jumonji) with 3 different amounts of intel and really the enemy of my enemy is my friend is super evident especially now that Tatsuya has confirmed that Lina is the spy from Stars.
