KDRAMA

At A Distance Spring Is Green (12/12): A coming of age story about young people in their twenties and the problems they face in university. Nam Soo Hyun and Yeo Joon, two boys with contrasting personalities, unexpectedly become friends when working on a project together.Depicts the realistic worries and conflicts of university students in their 20's, centered around 1st-year student Yeo Joon. Even though Yeo Joon has an attractive appearance and comes from a wealthy background, he carries pain inside. His character is a puppy-dog freshman who takes a liking to a sunbae and follows him around, leading to an unlikely friendship between two very different boys.

So the finale for this show aired this week and guys I'm totally going to miss it! I might have been one of the only people who actually stuck around past the first two episodes and watched the whole thing while also enjoying it! I'm such a sucker for college dramas in the first place and I was super fascinated by the three leads of this show not to mention the fact that it reminded me so much of a mix between My ID Is Gangnam Beauty and Cheese In The Trap. Jun was obviously my favorite and he clearly got the most character development in this show. I liked that he was so hard to read at the start and it was unclear at what point he went from playing around with So Bin to seeing himself in her and then falling in love but I adored watching it all! I loved that he started out needing everyone to adore him in the place of his family who were so cold only to finally learn the truth of his childhood and learn who to forgive and what hatred to let go of while also how to see who the people in his life really were. Soo Hyun was so amazing in how he tried to take on the weight of the world on his shoulders until he finally cracked under the pressure and decided to put himself first and So Bin learned to be more confident in herself. I do think that of the trio that So Bin got the least development and I do wish that her relationship with Jun was more than just her being his security blanket cause from start to finish he never actually told her anything about his past or what he was going through. Despite all that I definitely think this show is worth a watch and I'd give it a 9 / 10!
FINISHED Imitation (12/12): Lee Ma Ha is a member of the new K-pop girl group Tea Party, formed by Ji Hak, who was once the manager of the famous boy group Shax, but resigned after the sudden disappearance of member Eun Jo in the middle of a concert. Prior to joining Tea Party, Ma Ha was a member of the group Omega III, which disbanded on its debut day due to a tragic incident involving a former trainee at the group's company. This led Ma Ha to support herself by performing as an impersonator of the popular solo singer La Li Ma, gaining her public notoriety. Starting anew with Tea Party, Ma Ha finds herself repeatedly crossing paths with Kwon Ryok, the center and most popular member of Shax who is still haunted by Eun Jo's disappearance three years later. While Ryok initially dislikes Ma Ha due to her imitation of Li Ma, the two eventually begin to grow interested in one another and start a secret relationship that could put both of their careers in jeopardy. Meanwhile, Lee Yu Jin, Ma Ha's loyal friend who is the center of the rising boy group Sparkling, has been in love with Ma Ha since their idol trainee days. When he notices the budding relationship between Ma Ha and Ryok, he determines to protect her from Ryok and lead Sparkling to beat out Shax as the most popular boy group in the industry.

That was a really cute ending to a cute show. How did I not guess that SHAX would end up joining JH like Ri Ma and Tea Party did? At this point all the big stars might as well cause JH is super lax with it's rules so the idols can be whoever they want to be as long as they love music and performing and it's that just the best lesson you can get? I do wonder if we're supposed to think that Shining joined JH too or if they just come hang out all the time cause they're friends with everyone but either way it's precious. I absolutely adored that every main character performed Eun Jo and Annie's song for Annie and that Eun Jo even came out of retirement just the one time in order to honor her memory. Part of me wishes that he had returned to SHAX in order to honor her last wishes cause she did die in order to protect his idol dream after all but it also makes sense that after everything he went through that he would never want to be on stage again. Also low key the reporter wrote a lot less of a scathing article than I expected and honestly I was shocked that it was the CEO's secretary that was behind everything rather than the CEO though of course he profited off of everything so it's not like the CEO is innocent. On the whole this was a pretty fun show that I would definitely recommend if you like idols! 8.5 / 10!!

Make A Wish (24/24): Yu Chi Yan, a typical 'Buddhist youth' who simply goes with the flow saves a white cat by chance, who turns out to be a cat spirit from Meow Planet located in a parallel world. Taking on a human form, Xiao Xiu must repay Yu Chi Yan's kindness before returning to her own planet. A series of hilarious encounters ensue as Xiao Xiu moves in with Yu Chi Yan. Thus beginning an unconventional romance.

It's been a while since not only have I checked out a cdrama and enjoyed it but also a modern one! I find that I prefer shows that are neither completely mindless but also not that dramatic either so it's hard for me to enjoy one. This show actually reminded me a lot of Welcome that kdrama about a girl who falls in love with a male cat who can become human which was a show that I didn't particularly care about but I wanted to check this out cause the female lead looked cute as a button. I ended up adoring this show a lot more than I expected to and I think a major plus was the fact that Chi Yan knew that Xiao Xu was a cat from the first episode so there was none of the creepiness factor that the kdrama Welcome had! I loved the chemistry between our leads and I liked watching the two fall in love but also that though there was a little bit of an obstacle in the path of our lovers it was not dragged out and the solution felt really obvious in hindsight rather than feeling like a 11th hour save! The side characters were all cute if not really important enough to care about and I liked that the show ended without Xiao Xu losing her abilities! I'd definitely give it a 8 / 10!
