Arrow Season 7 Episode 1 Review

Arrow is back and I'm so beyond excited cause this is my show man! Arrow was the first superhero show on tv after a long time and since then it has had such a soft spot in my heart. I've connected the most with Oliver and the whole Arrow crew and I'm so excited to start a new season! Check out all my old Arrow reviews here and let's dive in!

Oliver is in prison and we've jumped forward 5 months which is crazy cause Flash literally went forward a day and Arrow is 5 months in the future which makes me wonder how the crossover will happen unless Flash also jumps forward at some point. Oliver's been working hard to keep his head down and not cause any trouble and honestly I'm more surprised that the other prisoners hadn't attacked Oliver yet cause everyone knows that he was the Green Arrow and a lot of them should have beef with him for locking him up. I loved how horrific Oliver's situation felt and how unlike in the Flash where Barry's time in prison felt like a joke (playing cards and trading pudding seriously), Oliver's time feels actually like what prison sounds like when people talk about it. His personal security guard seems to hate him for some reason which is interesting cause you would think next to the actual criminals, Oliver wouldn't be the worst one in there. I loved when he finally stepped up and fought back cause though that probably ruins any chances he has of getting out on good behavior, it was so uplifting to watch Oliver put those assholes in their places. Now no one will be attacking him unless they have a death wish.

The new showrunner mentioned how Oliver and Felicity's relationship this season will be paralleled though they are apart and I felt that so strongly tonight. Both Oliver and Felicity were in similar prisons (Felicity's being a bit more metaphoric) and they were stuck following someone else's rules. One of my favorite scenes this week was the back and forth cut between Oliver's fight in the showers and Felicity's with Diaz. I loved seeing that Felicity fight back and hold him off enough for William to get help while Oliver took on the whole group of men and was only taken down because he was distracted. The best scene though was the one where she visited him. Their love for each other was so strong and I loved that he was so relieved that she was okay cause the scene right before this was someone telling him that Diaz killed Felicity. I know some people are going to be mad that Felicity didn't listen to what Oliver wanted and stay in Witness Protection but as much as it's not like Oliver to hide, it's not like Felicity either and I love that she's going to fight back. She was the one to convince Oliver to fight back too cause she's the one person that he loves the most so of course her words would reach him more than anyone else's. They're honestly such a power couple and I can't wait to see what Felicity gets done. I'd love it if she was the one to catch Diaz cause he took everything from her.

I'm not sure how long Oliver is going to be in prison for but if I had to guess I'd say he'll be out by the crossover but that's still like at least 8 or 9 episodes of Oliver in jail so I hope that Felicity and Oliver and John still get moments to talk to each other especially now that Felicity is back in Star City.

Speaking of returning to Star City, William is being sent off to boarding school which is hilarious to me cause I know a bunch of people hated him last season and that was me too at the start of last season but I grew to love him and the little family he, Oliver and Felicity made. This leads to the most surprisingly moment of the episode and one I did not see coming which had to do with the flash-forwards (?) on Lian Yu. I really had no idea if we were looking at a flashback or a flash-forward or who the person was until he revealed himself to Roy. This really surprised me cause I don't know why we would bother flashing to a grown up William unless it's actually him under the Green Arrow hood in a came back to the past from the future kind of thing which also really doesn't make sense cause Flash is doing that right now and it would be a bit much for Arrow to do that too. I also really hope that this isn't all we see of Roy in these flashes cause I love him and I really did think it was him under the Green Arrow hood so I'll be a bit disappointed if it wasn't. It would make sense for it to be future William (with the moniker Connor Hawke perhaps) especially with the List parallel at the end and I wonder if Oliver is dead in these flash-forwards cause why else would William travel to Lian Yu if Oliver was around to train him. Did he know Roy was on the island? So many questions!

It was also fun seeing where our Team Arrow ended up after these five months. Curtis is working at ARGUS R&D department which was a bit surprisingly cause like wouldn't he want to keep working on Helix Dynamics but also not cause of course he'd go work for ARGUS. Rene is running a self defense center for kids of the Glades like Colleen in Iron Fist and I'm so down for this cause he is the only one of the group so deeply involved in the Glades. Dinah is still captain of the police force and doubling down on anti-vigilante sentiment to keep the FBI and Watson off their trail and Black Siren is the DA which is hilarious cause girl read one law book and now's she a lawyer. I love watching them struggle a bit to not be vigilantes and try to be normal and like the question of how long Oliver's going to be in prison, I wonder how long until our Team suits up again. I guess it'll all depend on where Felicity goes now cause I have a feeling she'll be the thing that brings them all back.

The episode next week is called the Longbow Hunters who are supposed to be our Big Bad this season which is interesting cause we didn't get even a hint of them this week. I didn't actually mind that cause of all the shows, this is the one where the most changed in our world and we needed an episode to get caught up. The promo was pretty confusing though cause I have a feeling lines and different scenes were sewed together to confuse us. Overall it looks like both John and Oliver aren't thrilled that Felicity is back and kicking and I wonder if she'll go to the new Green Arrow to help him or if she'll actually hire the Longbow Hunters to hunt down Diaz which will then turn around and bite her in the ass in the end. Either way I'm so pumped! What a fantastic premiere!

I'll see you all tomorrow night for my Flash review!

xoxo Allie
